[Class 136 (i)] A flexible oil or grease resistant guard for a driving element of the roller chain type includes spring clips 12 for engaging at spaced intervals on at least alternate protuberances of the roller pins. The guard 11 of moulded rubber or plastic material is detachably mounted by means of metal spring clips 12 which are secured to the guard by partially moulding therewith and are formed with inwardly protruding parts to engage with the ends of the roller pins of .the driving element. The guard may comprise one or more guard elements, the ends of which are adjustably jointed. One end of each guard element has an enlarged portion having a serrated recess 11b adapted to engage complementary recesses 11c in its other end or an adjacent end of another guard element. Each joint is held in position by a metal clip.

Date indicators.-A money box is combined with a calendar mechanism, the manual operation of which is controlled by the insertion of a coin or coins, the mechanism being freed by the inserted coin releasing a spring pawl from engagement with a pocketed flange on a drum or spindle carrying the date indications. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a casing 1 has a window or aperture 2 through which is displayed one of the date figures 2 arranged on a band 7 that is attached to drums on rotatable spindles 3, 4 mounted in the casing. A flange 11 on the spindle 4 contains a pocket or recess 12 for the reception of a coin inserted through a coin slot 9 in the casing. The flange is provided with a notch 13 which is normally engaged by a spring pressed pawl 14 to lock the spindle 4 against rotation in the direction of the arrow, Fig. 2. A second spring catch 16 is provided to hold the spindle if an attempt is made to turn it when the coin pocket is empty. If a coin has been inserted and the spindle operated, the coin itself engages the spring catch to move it to inoperative position. The flange may contain two or more pockets arranged around it or side by side, in which case a corresponding number of coins will have to be inserted to render the mechanism operative. Instead of a band 7 the date figures may be arranged on tablets pivoted at one edge to the spindle 4 and displayed one at a time.

[Class 80 (iii).] Relates to mechanism of the type described in Specification 329,722, [Class 80 (iii), Linkwork &c.], and consists in the provision of springs on the travelling bolt, the ends R of the sliding bolt N being fitted with springs T. The nuts B, C are recessed at D, D , E for engagement with a tongue O on the bolt. The bolt guide H is moved by plates K carried by rings F, G, in contact with the nuts. The guide carries teeth t adapted to engage recesses P, Q in the bolt, which is pressed against the teeth by a spring U. On the upward stroke shown, the teeth are in engagement with the bolt at P. On impact with the stop the bolt N is checked ; the nut B goes on turning until the recess E registers with the tongue O, whereupon the load upon spring T, having overcome the resistance of recess P and spring U throws the bolt over so that the teeth engage recesses Q and the tongue O engages the nut C, leaving the nut B free to rotate.

Windows, cleaning. - A wiper connected to a rod 12 is moved across a wind screen by means of a pair of nuts R, L engaging right- and left - handed threads on a shaft 1 which is rotated by any convenient source of power. A slide 7 engaging cam projections 11 on the nuts and guided in a frame 10 is moved endwise at each end of the travel of the wiper by a projection 8 engaging a stop 13, thus causing one nut to be held against rotation and the other to be released, so that the motion is reversed. Bearing balls 6 may be inserted between the nuts and on the inner sides of the frame 10.
