    • A control valve includes an accommodation cylinder, a coil, a stator, a plunger, and a valve body. Electromagnetic force is generated between the stator and the plunger and the plunger moves relative to the stator. The valve body adjusts the opening degree of a valve hole. A flat surface and a peripheral wall are formed in an end of the stator. The peripheral wall has a tapered cross-section with an inclined inner surface. The inclined inner surface and the flat surface define a recess. The plunger has a frustum portion. The frustum portion includes a flat distal surface and an annular inclined surface. The taper angle of the peripheral wall is equal to or less than twenty degrees. The diameter of the flat distal surface of the frustum portion is equal to or greater than eighty percent of the largest diameter of the annular inclined surface.

    • An improved torque sensor for detecting the direction and the magnitude of a torque applied to a shaft. The sensor includes a magnetostrictive layer, a pair of bearings, a stator and two nuts. The sleeve is fixed the circumference of the shaft. The layer has a magnetostriction effect in accordance with torque applied to the shaft. A pair of collars are fixed to the shaft at opposite ends of the layer. The bearings are connected to the shaft. Each bearing contacts one of the collars. The stator accommodates two pairs of coils. Each coil pair includes an exciting coil and a detecting coil. The coils surround and face the magnetostrictive layer. The axial position of the stator is determined by the bearings. Each nut is threaded to a threaded portion fixed to the shaft and presses one of the bearings against the corresponding collar. Accordingly, the axial position of the stator is determined.

Each phase coil includes a first wave winding bundle and a second wave winding bundle that is passed through a first slot and a second slot. The first slot is located adjacent to one side of a group of slots through which the phase coils other than said each phase coil are passed and the second slot is located adjacent to the other side of the group of slots. The first wave winding bundle is passed through a third slot and a fourth slot. The third slot is located adjacent to the first slot on the opposite side of the first slot from the group of slots and the fourth slot is located adjacent to the second slot on the opposite side of the second slot from the group of slots.

The first step is a step of blanking a plurality of stator core sheets from an electromagnetic steel sheet by using a die. The die has a circular outside contour for blanking the stator core sheets from the electromagnetic steel sheet and each of the blanked stator core sheets has an outside contour. The second step is a step of forming the stator core by laminating the blanked stator core sheets one on another. The third step is a step of setting a non-fixing position of the stator core to the housing in such an angular position where difference in diametral dimension of the outside contour between the die and the stator core is relatively large.

    • A method for mounting coil onto stator for rotary electric machine. The method includes forming coil pieces by winding wire with flat cross section into single row lamination state including wire layers aligned along perpendicular line to flat surfaces of wire. The coil is formed for first portion to be inserted in slot and second portion not inserted in slot appear alternately along the coil. The method displaces wire layers at the first portion changing the single row lamination state to connectively laminated state where wire layers at portion to be inserted in slot each adjacent pair of the wire layers partially overlap with respect to direction perpendicular to flat wire surfaces. The method includes inserting wires of first portion into slot, passing each wire layer through slot opening successively from the top wire layer of lamination and displacing each wire layer at first portion from each other.

    • A stator includes a first through a third windings, and a first and a second interphase insulators. The first interphase insulator has a first pair of strip-shaped insulating sheets and a first connecting portion. End portions of the insulating sheets are connected to the respective opposite end portions to form joints. The first connecting portion connects the insulating sheets so that the joints are shifted so as to be disposed in a region avoiding an interference with the first winding on both of a lead-extending side and the opposite side.
