    • PURPOSE: To enable effective regeneration by a small amount of a regenerating agent, by attaining to optimize the concn. of the regenerating agent in consideration of the reactive characteristics and ion exchange selectivity of a desalting capacity reduced ion exchange substance and the regenerating agent.
      CONSTITUTION: In a method for performing regeneration by passing a regenerating liquid through a desalting capacity reduced ion exchange substance, the concn. of the regenerating agent in the regenerating liquid is changed over a part or the entire section of a regenerating liquid passing time with the elapse of the regenerating liquid passing time. For example, in regenerating a Na-type ion exchange resin reduced in desalting capacity with H
      2 SO
      4 , the concn. of the regenerating agent is made high at the initial stage in the passage of the regenerating agent when the Na
      + -amount of the resin phase is much while the concn. of the regenerating agent is reduced at the terminal period of the passage when the Na
      + -amount of the resin phase is reduced. Because the excessive passage of the regenerating agent is avoided, regeneration at a low level as compared with a conventional method is enabled.
