    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent striped irregularities and to record an image having good gradation by a method wherein two recording heads that are scanned in a paper width direction for recording are disposed away from each other at a predetermined distance in a paper conveying direction and the recording heads are cooperatively controlled to be driven. SOLUTION: This device comprises a paper supplying section 36 and a paper discharge roller 37 as conveying means for conveying a recording medium 35 by each predetermined length and first and second recording heads 31A, 31B having two or more kinds of recording agents having different concentrations in each similar color and being scanning in a direction perpendicular to the conveying direction of the recording medium 35. The recording heads 31A, 31B are disposed away from each other in the conveying direction at a distance which is not integral multiples of the predetermined length. The recording agent which is obtained by combining one or more agent is determined based on a pixel as the agent used for the recording of the pixel of an image having gradation and the paper supplying and recording by the recording heads 31A, 31B are controlled in accordance with the inputted image data and determined recording agent.

    • PURPOSE: To improve the gradation reproducibility by dividing an input image into plural density areas and applying different split processing to the image depending on the density area to which picture elements belong. CONSTITUTION: An image received by an image processing 1 is a digital signal in 8-bits or the like and the recorded image has 256 gradation from density 0 to density 255. The image information 1 is given to an image processing section 2, in which density values 64 and 192 set as threshold levels are used and each picture element is divided into 4×4 very small picture elements according to the density classification. Then very small picture elements adjacent in the main operation direction are recorded with priority for a low density part with density values 0-64. On the other hand, two sets of two very small picture elements adjacent in the subscanning direction are selected for a high density part with density values of 193-255 and the density of the very small picture elements is sequentially increased from one set. The graduation reproducibility is improved by applying different modulation processing to each of the very small picture elements and recording the resulting gradation.
