    • The invention relates to a high pressure pump of a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine, having a pump housing 1 in which a pump camshaft 2 is rotatably mounted and interacts with a pump piston base 15 of a pump piston 5 by means of a roller tappet 4 disposed in a tappet body 10 and engaged with an inner annular flange 18 of the tappet body 10, said pump piston being displaceable up and down in a pump cylinder 8 disposed in the pump housing 1 and covered by a pump cylinder head 7, forming a pump working chamber 6. A spring disc 16,16a rests on the inner annular flange 18 opposite the roller tappet 4 and encloses the pump piston base 15, and a pump spring 17 is disposed between the spring disc 16,16a and the pump cylinder head 7. According to the invention, noise emission behavior of a generic high pressure pump is improved. Said aim is achieved in that a clearance compensation device is provided for compensating for a clearance between the pump piston base 15, the roller shoe 12, and the spring disc 16,16a.
