The apparatus is an engine (e.g., 2-stroke or 4-stroke, diesel or gasoline-fueled internal combustion engine) comprising a crankshaft, crankcase, combustion chamber, oil pan, piston, connecting rod, intake port, exhaust port, and scavenging pump assembly having an air cylinder and an air diaphragm. The scavenging pump assembly allows for the control of air and fuel intake port pressure by controllably boosting an intake mixture into the combustion chamber, while minimizing the potential for engine lubricating-oil to combine with the intake air-fuel mixture.

It is an internal combustion piston engine in which each opposed pair of cylinders (1) fires simultaneously, providing symmetric cranking force on the crankshaft (13). Each cylinder (1) is a simple solid of rotation with air-cooling fins (10). Cylinder heads (5) are modular. Each module (5) covers two adjacent cylinders (1), and has liquid cooling channels. All cylinders (1) are identical, and all cylinder heads (5) are identical. The cylinders (1) are held inward against the crankcase (16) by the cylinder heads (5). Each cylinder head (5) is held inward against the cylinders (1) by two tension bolts (42) that span to the opposite cylinder head (5). One tension bolt (42) crosses above the crankcase (16), and one below it. Spark timing intervals of 105 and 135 degrees reduce torsional resonance in the crankshaft, eliminating harmonic balancers.

    • When considering the main types of commercial engines available on the market, whether two-stroke, four-stroke or rotary-type, it is found that, and this is commonplace, said engines are highly polluting. The main reason for this lies in the difficulty to manufacture worn gas filters which would not induce restriction. However, that difficulty can be overcome by producing an engine which is itself capable of sustaining a high rate of restriction. The technical solutions disclosed by the invention present several embodiments enabling the engine to tolerate a higher level of restriction and consequently a more dense filtering. These various technical embodiments provide for a novel path for fresh gases through the engine. The invention provides a solution, which is not primarily concerned with fresh gas supply but rather with waste gas absorption, followed by their subsequent evacuation constituting the first stroke of said engine. Indeed, the waste gases are evacuated outwards by two successive steps: the gases are evacuated outwards by pumping, and said discharge generates, in turn, a vacuum which sucks in the burnt fresh gases which in turn finally suck in the fresh gases. Said techniques have the further advantage of producing two stroke engines powered with gas only, and consequently cleaner and more efficient.
