摘要： An interactive narrative presentation includes a plurality of narrative segments, with a variety of available media content consumer selectable paths or directions, typically specified by a director or editor. The content consumer can select a path or path segment at each of a number of points, e.g., decision points, in the narrative presentation via user interface elements or narrative prompts, providing the consumer the opportunity to follow a storyline they find interesting. Each consumer follows a "personalized" path through the narrative. The narrative prompts or user interface elements can include visually distinct portions of the narrative segments, for example outlines of actors or characters associated with respective visually distinct characteristics ( e.g ., colors). The narrative prompts may be overlaid or combined with a presentation of the underlying narrative (primary content). The visually distinct characteristic can map to respective actions.

摘要： A content distribution system provides access to supplemental content (e.g., social media shares attributable to characters) based on progress of a content consumer in a narrative presentation. The narrative presentation comprises a set of narrative segments that the content consumer may experience using a set of instructions stored on a content consumer device. The content distribution system may determine a current point in time of the content consumer in experiencing the narrative presentation and, as a result of the current point determined, provide access to supplemental content related to the narrative presentation. The supplemental content to which the content consumer is provided access may include a social media instance comprised of social media content. The composition of the social media instance may be based at least in part on the current point in time of the content consumer in experiencing the narrative presentation.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for panoramic multimedia streaming where viewers may control spatial coverage of panoramic video components of multimedia signals are disclosed. A novel flexible streaming server is devised to perform client-specific content filtering in addition to adapting multimedia signals to characteristics of individual client devices as well as to varying capacities of network paths to client devices. The server may distribute software modules to client devices to enable viewers to communicate preferred view regions of a panoramic scene. The server includes a learning module devised to retain viewing-preference data, correlate viewing preference to characteristics of client devices, and determine a default viewing preference for each client device. The server implements computationally efficient schemes of generating and distributing content-filtered multimedia signals to clients. The server may be implemented using hardware processing units and memory devices allocated within a shared cloud-computing network.

The method includes presenting the broadcast content and the call-to-action to the user, receiving a trigger signal from the user in response to the call-to-action, and initiating, in response to the trigger signal, an interaction over the network between the user and a call-to-action party associated with the call-to-action. The method enables an interaction to be established between the user and the call-to-action party regardless of whether the call-to-action party is the same entity as or a different entity to the broadcaster.

摘要： A consumer set-top terminal (400) and method that receives and stores digital programming services such as television programs for subsequent playback by the user in a manner analogous to a conventional video cassette recorder (VCR). An interface (480) allows the terminal's user to control a transcoding process (427) based on the desired quality level for the transcoded data, e.g., high, medium or low. The transcoding is provided without the expense and complexity of a full encoder. By performing transcoding at the terminal (400), the bit rate of the data can be reduced sufficiently to allow economical storage at the terminal. Moreover, the user can set the quality level to be different for different programs, different parts of the same program, or for different channels.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for managing, implementing and using interactive applications and content that are digitally recorded and viewed in real-time and/or a time-shifted mode are provided. The interactive applications may be associated with television programs or may be unrelated thereto, and may be transmitted together with television programs or separately therefrom. Interactive applications that are employed in a time-shifted mode can be matched to current conditions and interactive content may be updated to include current data. Users may view and manipulate highlights of television programs and receive alerts of occurrence of real-time events during viewing of recorded material.
