    • An ultrasonic motor in which a stationary member (5) with a vibrator (5v) is opposed to a moving member (6) with a vibrator (6v) and the moving member is moved by the vibrations of the vibrators. The relative position between the stationary member (5) and the moving member (6) is determined by detecting the vibrations of one vibrator when only the other vibrator is actively vibrated. The phase difference of vibration between the two vibrators is adjusted so that the vibration waveforms may coincide in phase when both vibrators are actively vibrated in accordance with the determined relative position. As a result, the vibration waveforms of the stationary member (5) and the moving member (6) are kept from deviating from each other.
