    • A drilling area network hub is located proximate to a drill rig and includes an uphole transceiver in bidirectional communication with a downhole transceiver by utilizing the drill string as an electrical conductor. Certain information is collected including rig-based and/or location information. At least one field report is generated based on the certain information to characterize at least one of an inground operation, an operational condition of the downhole transceiver, an operational condition of the uphole transceiver, and an operational condition of the drill rig. A drilling area network server receives the field report from the Internet at a remote location and can generate a custom report and/or recommended actions based on field data. Region specific parameters can be applied to the operation of a drilling system. The drilling area network hub can transfer data logs to the remote location according to assigned priorities.

    • The present disclosure is directed to a system (100) and method of correcting video data errors. In a particular embodiment, the method includes receiving a plurality of Internet Protocol (IP) video data packets at a generator of a video acquisition system. The method also includes calculating a first error correction code corresponding to a first error profile and generating a first forward error correction (FEC) packet to produce the first error correction code. The method also includes calculating a second error correction code corresponding to a second error profile and generating (112) a second FEC packet to produce the second error correction code. Further, the method includes transmitting a stream of data packets including the plurality of IP video data packets, the first FEC packet and the second FEC packet, to a re-generator (114) of an Internet Protocol video transport system, where an arbitrator of the re-generator identifies an error in the plurality of IP video data packets and selects one of a plurality of inverse FEC functions to correct the error.

    • The system allows an apparatus, such as a game computer or a PDA, to establish communication between a local application and applications in at least one other apparatus. Active activation means (310) of apparatus (100) invites applications in the other apparatuses to join a selected application by using message sending means (200) to broadcast a frame, requesting the activation of the selected application. The active activation means (310) also determines a communication channel which coresponds to the application. Upon receiving the broadcast frame via message receiving means (210), passive activation means (340) in other apparatuses (101 e.a.) prepare for communication via the corresponding communication channel if a local application needs to be activated. The group of applications, which in this way has been formed, communicates by using group frames. The group frames comprise a channel field which identifies a communication channel. The formed group of applications uses the communication channel which corresponds to the selected application in apparatus (100).
