    • Apparatus which may be a part of various systems including piping systems and fluidized bed systems. The apparatus that holds one tube with respect to another tube includes a body (40) that has a first cylindrical section shaped portion (42) and a second cylindrical section shaped portion (44). Each of the cylindrical section shaped portions (42, 44) has an angular extent that is generally concave. The angular extent of the first cylindrical section shaped portion (42) and the angular extent of the second cylindrical section shaped portion (44) each has an axis and the axis of the first cylindrical section shaped portion (42) may be spaced from the axis of the second cylindrical section shaped portion (44). Some embodiments of the invention have cylindrical section shaped portions (42, 44) that have an angular extent that is no greater than 180 degrees. The axis of the first cylindrical section shaped portion (42) may be perpendicular to the second cylindrical section shaped portion (44). The cylindrical section shaped porttions (42, 44) have extremities (42a, 42b, 44a, 44b) and a weld bead extends between each of the extremities (42a, 42b) of the first cylindrical section shaped portion (42) and the first tubular member (32) and a weld bead extending between each of the extremities (44a, 44b) of the second cylindrical section shaped portion (44) and the second tubular member (30) in some embodiments.

    • To reduce the amount of coolant needed relative to a pressurized furnace cooling system a spray cooling system for the sidewalls and/or roof of a furnace is provided. In the invention, spray headers and pipes (14, 16 and 18) supply coolant to spray nozzles (70) distributed within a coolant space in a roof structure (10) to spray coolant against the working plates (22) of the roof. The spray pipes and headers also comprise part of the framework of the roof, resulting in a simple, lightweight, one-piece structure. A pump (56) is connected to evacuate the coolant from the coolant space, and thermocouples (58) are embedded in the working plates to monitor their temperature and operate controls to adjust the flow rate so that only the amount of coolant necessary to maintain a desired temperature is supplied to the roof and/or sidewalls.

    • An end cap (26) is provided for adjacent pipes (24) in the cooling coils (22) of an electric air furnace (10).     • Apparatus for cooling the refractory lining of furnaces which may also be used for cooling tools, such as oxygen lances that are required to be used in the vicinity of molten metal.
