    • An apparatus for controlling airflow in a fiber extrusion process includes a fiber flow region between an inlet through which extruded fibers are received and an outlet through which the extruded fibers are discharged and at least one surface providing a boundary between the fiber flow region and another region, wherein the surface includes apertures permitting air to flow between the fiber flow region and the other region to control airflow at the outlet of the fiber flow region. The apparatus can include a housing which contains at least one chamber, with the surface forming a boundary between the fiber flow region and the chamber, such that the apertures permit air to flow between the fiber flow region and at the chamber. In a spunbond process, the airflow control device receives drawn filaments exiting an aspirator and deposits the filaments onto a web-forming surface with reduced air disturbance.

    • A variable capacity refrigeration system employing a constant speed compressor that operates continuously irrespective of heat load, and a refrigerant bypass path including a secondary expansion device, two heat exchangers, a pressure differential accommodation device, and a flow control device to divert permit a portion of the refrigerant exiting the condenser to the bypass path. One heat exchanger is connected so that the refrigerant exiting the condenser passes through a first flow path. At the exit of the first flow path, a portion of the refrigerant is diverted through a secondary expansion device to the bypass path which then passes through a second flow path of the first heat exchanger, whereby the first heat exchanger provides subcooling of the refrigerant exiting the condenser. Refrigerant exiting the compressor passes through a first flow path of the second heat exchanger. The refrigerant exiting the second flow path of the first heat exchanger passes through a second flow path of the second heat exchanger, and then returns to the compressor inlet. The second heat exchanger therefore provides desuperheating of the refrigerant in the primary refrigerant loop. This construction permits use in a multizone system where as much as 70% of the refrigerant mass flow can be diverted to the bypass path to reduce cooling capacity while still permitting full vaporization of the diverted refrigerant before return to the compressor. An accumulator may also be provided in the bypass path.

    • A combined electric fan and radiation heater, selectively used as an electric fan in summer and as an electric radiation heater in winter, is disclosed. The combined fan and heater of this invention consists of a fan motor set in a motor case, a parabolic rear safety net, a blade unit, and a parabolic front safety net in the same manner as a conventional electric fan. The combined fan and heater is also provided with a parabolic reflector and a heat radiating body. The parabolic reflector is designed to be detachably attached to the front end surface of the motor case using a nut while replacing the rear safety net. The heat radiating body is externally wound with a heating coil and is designed to be detachably held on a seat of the parabolic reflector prior to being attached to the front end surface of the motor case using a plurality of locking screws while replacing the blade unit, with the heating coil being operated in conjunction with an existing electric circuit. When the combined fan and heater is used as an electric radiation heater, the heater accomplishes a desired radiation heating effect, allowing strong heat to effectively reach an area considerably remote from the heater, due to the parabolic reflector.
