摘要： Improved compositions containing a visible coloring agent, such as a colored pigment or dye, together with a polymer or hydroxylated aliphate alcohol, a surfactant and in some embodiments, a therapeutic agent or biocide, are disclosed. The detectable coloring agent is readily visible under normal white light, and provides a technique for monitoring disturbed and undistrubed areas on a surface. The visible coloring agent of the compositions are further defined as imparting a color to the composition that remains virtually constant upon contact with a contaminant or change in pH of the composition, or of the surface or other environment to which it is exposed. Such is useful in the described methods for cleaning and/or decontaminating a surface, as in the decontamination of equipment and clothing used during hazardous spill response. The compositions are adherent to a variety of different materials, including Teflon3. This makes the preparations particularly useful in the cleaning and decontamination of non-flat and curved surfaces, such as on protective garments. The compositions, in particular embodiments, include a visually detectable coloring agent (such as a colored pigment), a surfactant (such as ethoxylate alcohol), and emulsifier (such as carboxymethyl cellulose), an extender (such as PEG), and a solvent (such as d-limonene). These compositions may also include water or other suitable diluent.

摘要： A method of cleaning interior surfaces of fluid delivery systems. The method comprises (a) passing through the system an abrasive cleaner composition comprising at least one liquid carrier containing solubilizable abrasive particles, at least some of which are in non-solubilized form, effective to abrade the material to be removed from the interior surfaces, and (b) rinsing the system with at least one fluid effective to (i) displace the carrier and (ii) remove the abrasive particles, at least partially by such chemical means as dissolution or decomposition or neutralization. Optionally, the method can include a first step of contacting the inside surfaces of the fluid delivery system with a pretreatment fluid capable of softening or loosening the material that is to be cleaned from the internal surfaces of the delivery system for a time sufficient to soften or loosen unwanted material. Also, an abrasive cleaning kit capable of cleaning unwanted deposited materials from interior surfaces of fluid delivery systems. The kit is comprised of: (A) an abrasive cleaner composition comprising a liquid carrier containing solubilizable but having non-solubilized abrasive particles effective to abrade the unwanted material; and (B) at least one rinsing fluid effective to (i) displace said carrier and (ii) remove said abrasive particles at least partially by such chemical means as dissolution, decomposition, or neutralization, comprising water and at least one material chosen from the group consisting of organic solvents, acids, amines, and mixtures thereof effective for such chemical removal. Optionally, included is (C) a pretreatment fluid comprising a liquid capable of softening the unwanted material that is to be cleaned from the interior surfaces of the fluid delivery system. Also compositions of (A) and (C) with and without surfactants and/or acids are provided. Additionally, cleaner compositions made from abrasive cleaner composition (A) and pretreatment fluid composition (C) of the above abrasive cleaning kit are provided.

摘要： A clear hard surface cleaner which is in the form of a microemulsion is disclosed. The hard surface cleaner comprises a) 1 to 26 wt % of an abrasive with a single value refractive index of not more than 1.477 which is dispersed in said compositions; b) one or more anionic or nonionic surfactants selected from the group consisting of alkyl benzene sulfonates, saturated and unsaturated fatty acid soaps, amine oxides, sarcosinates, alkyl ethoxysulphates, betaines, alcohol ethoxylates, ethoxylated fatty amines, nonyl phenol ethoxylates, sucrose esters, alkyl glucosides and fatty acid alkanolamides, or mixtures thereof; c) sufficient of a component to adjust the refractive index of the continuous phase to that of the abrasive; d) one or more oil and grease solvents selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbons, cineole, terpene alcohols, terpene aldehydes, and terpene ketones, or mixtures thereof, in the dispersed phase; and e) water. Preferred abrasives are silica and polytetrafluorethylene.

摘要： Porous metal oxide particles (10) are formed from a solution containing both a metal alkoxide and a steric stabilizing polymer in the presence of excess water. Water, at a molar ratio of water to metal alkoxide in excess of 30, allows particles on the order of 200 nm or less to be formed. The metal oxide particles drop out of solution and have a coating of the steric stabilizing polymer adsorbed on their surfaces. Polymer films (18) containing the metal oxide particles can be created simply by drying the adsorbed steric stabilizing polymer (12) after casting or molding. Ceramic films (20) can be created simply by burning off the polymer film. Combining the metal oxide particles, with or without the adsorbed steric stabilizing polymer, with cleaning agents and cosmetic formulations can provide surfaces (16) such as glass or skin with UV and IR protection.
