    • For and in a protective garment having an outer shell, a liner having a barrier side and an opposite side and having, on the barrier side, a moisture barrier or a barrier against chemical or biological agents is folded along two folds, which are parallel when laid flat and straightened, so as to form a fin projecting from the opposite side. A seal providing a similar barrier is provided between the folds. A plural-part fastener, such as a snap fastener or a hook-and-loop fastener, is used to fasten the liner having the barrier to and within the outer shell. One part of the plural-part fastener is mounted to the liner and another part of the plural-part fastener is mounted to the outer shell. Moreover, the liner may have a barrier on each side and be similarly formed with a similar fin projecting oppositely, having a similar seal, and mounting one part of a similar fastener, whereby a thermal liner mounting another part of the similar fastener may be similarly fastened to and within the liner having the barriers.

    • A dual-bed ventilation air regeneration system (10) is adapted for use in conjunction with a ventilation or respiration air loop of an astronaut space suit wherein the ventilation loop includes inlet and outlet manifolds. A pair of chemical beds (11, 12), having inlet (22) and outlet (24) manifolds, are provided for alternatively adsorbing carbon dioxide and water vapor deposits from the ventilation or respiration air, and for de-sorbing such deposits to the hard vacuum of space through spool valve housing vacuum ports. A single spool valve (18) controls the fluidic connections between the ventilation air in-let and outlet manifolds, the chemical bed inlet and outlet manifolds, and the exhaust or vacuum ports. The spool valve also permits equalization of the chemical bed pressures and volumes during transition between chemical bed changeovers between the adsorbing and desorbing phases so as to save one-half the volume of air as compared to that which would otherwise be lost to space if such pressure equalization was not achieved. In addition, air which is utilized to actuate the spool valve in its reciprocating movements is used to replenish air, within the ventilation loop, which was lost to vacuum during the previous desorbing cycle.

    • Ballistic collar comprising a bellows shaped member (1) which is arranged to surround a human's neck, comprising bellows plies (2, 3) being mainly perpendicular to the axis of the collar or of the human's neck. Free standing, the structure stands up around the neck to provide ballistic protection. The structure may be formed by folding a sheet of ballistic rated body armor fabric comprising strong synthetic fibers, e.g. from aromatic polyamide fibers, or ultra high molecular weight polyolefin, e.g. polyethylene polypropylene, fibers. For manufacturing the ballistic collar a plurality of sheets may be piled-up and the whole may be submitted to transformation in a mold (5, 6) at a temperature and pressure at which the sheets remain mainly loose from each other. Preferably parts of the collars or bellows shaped members are made, which are assembled afterwards e.g. by stitching, welding etc.
