    • The invention relates to protection against ionising radiation, in particular to radiation protection composite materials and to the methods for production thereof. The inventive composite material comprises the following components: 20-22 mass % of epoxy resin, 10.0-11.5 mass % of polydisperse tungsten mixture, 1.0-1,5 mass % of nickel powder, 9.0-10.0 mass % of mineral fibre, silicate compound being the rest. Said radiation protection material contains epoxy-diane resin, an aliphatic epoxide and a modified amine hardener. The composite material is produced by introducing a fine metallic powder into the epoxy resin. Said fine metallic powder consists of a mixture of powdered tungsten, which comprises 80 % of round particles and 20 % of flat particles having size of 100x50, with a nickel powder. The mixture of a silicate compound and milled mineral fibre is also added. The hardening of said mixture is carried out at normal conditions. The use of the inventive material increases the X-ray attenuation factor and reduces a metal consumption. The inventive method for producing said material is simple and economic.

    • The present invention relates to an X-ray absorbing material which can be used in medicine as well as in the production of special protection clothes, protection screens, housings, protection coatings and isolation materials. In a first embodiment, the material uses as a filler a poly-dispersed kneading-segregated mixture containing metallic particles having a size of between 10 and 10 m, wherein said particles are bonded to the surface of a textile base. The density of the material is defined by the relation qN = (0.01 - 0.20)qP where qN is the density of the X-ray absorbing material as a whole while qP is the density of the material used for the particles of the X-ray absorbing filler. In a second embodiment, this invention uses as a filler the above-mentioned mixture though the particles are surrounded by the volume of a matrix made of a compound that solidifies under atmospheric pressure. The total mass of the poly-dispersed and segregated mixture is defined by the relation M = (0.05 - 0.5)m where M is the total mass of the X-ray absorbing poly-dispersed and segregated filler, while m is the equivalent mass of the filler material which is equal by its protection properties to the mass M. In a third embodiment, this invention uses as a filler the above-mentioned mixture though the particles are bonded to an intermediate substrate consisting of a textile base and surrounded by the volume of a matrix.

    • The invention relates to a plastic web of high-molecular neutron-moderating polymers with a neutron-absorbing additive containing boron. To obtain a plastic web which is as light as possible and absorbs biologically highly harmful neutrons with an energy in the range from 0.1 to 2 MeV, it is proposed that the plastic web contain first additives with high contents of neutron-scattering heavy metals like manganese, lead, tungsten or iron, and preferably brownstone, and second additives with high contents of wide-band operative neutron absorbers like boron, gadolinium and manganese, and preferably boron carbide, gadolinium oxide and brownstone. The recommended moderating polymer is high-molecular polyisobutylene with a Staudinger index in the range between 415 and 480 cm3/g. The neutron-absorbing effect of the plastic web of the invention is based on the combination of moderating, scattering and absorbent materials. The presence of neutron-scattering additives ensures that the trajectory of the scattered neutrons in the plastic web is substantially longer than the geometrical layer thickness so that the likelihood of striking an absorbent atomic nucleus is considerably increased.
