    • A new type of bicycle lighting system has a high-capacity dynamo system (1, 5), including a dynamo generator (1), and a converter (5) connected thereto and to the lighting bodies to convert the electric power generated by the dynamo generator (1) into light and at the same time into a regulated direct voltage for loading a battery. The dynamo generator (1) consists of an inner and an outer circle (21, 22) that rotate both around a fixed, air-core coil (23). The pole pieces form together with the fixed air-core coil a high-capacity generator that reaches at least 90 % efficiency. This capacity ensures that the dynamo system (1, 5) generates enough electric energy to load the battery and at the same time to feed front and rear lights (2, 3) from a minimum driving speed of about 5 km/h. As long as the minimum driving speed is not exceeded, the converter (5) and the front and rear lights (2, 3) are additionally fed by the battery (parking light). Electronic components, such as a threshold value device (12-16) and a delay circuit (17) ensure that the disclosed bicycle lighting system generates a constant lighting voltage of about 6 V and that the ratio of distribution between the energy required for generating light and the energy required for loading the accumulator battery (4) lies between 1 and 2:1, regardless of the speed from about 5 km/h. When the battery (4) fails, the dynamo generator (1) feeds the light sources directly through the dynamo system.

    • A helmet-mounted wireless frequency-modulated infrared beam-actuated auxiliary brakelight system capable of reliable operation in all ranges of ambient light while permitting the rider (12) to turn his head from side to side over a large angle approaching 180 degrees or more. The system comprises a frequency-modulated infrared transmitter (18) in operative combination with a switch (38) for detecting brake system actuation, and a helmet module (14) including a frequency-modulated infrared receiver and decoder in operative combination with a stop light. Brake system initiation results in switch (38) actuation which causes transmitter (18) to emit a beam of frequency-modulated infrared energy (35) towards the helmet module (14). When the beam (35) is received at the helmet module (14), it is captured using a lens (44) in operative combination with a novel lightpipe which ensures reception over a 180 degrees angle. The infrared energy is then transmitted through a solar filter which further discriminates between solar infrared energy and the infrared beam from the transmitter (18) before being received at an electro-optical circuit. This circuit decodes the frequency-modulated infrared energy and activates the auxiliary brake lamp.

    • A portable headlamp (10) that is particularly designed for use with bicycles integrates a number of essential features and functions desired by modern bicyclists. The headlamp (10) has an easily removable and universally mountable fastening system (16, 75) that requires no tools to install. The mounting system (16) includes a rotary joint (42, 52) that enables a headlamp to be pointed in any desired direction while maintaining a desired friction that can be set by the user. A focussable light beam (28, 32, 62) enables the operator to vary the light distribution pattern, thereby making the headlamp suitable for use under a number of different conditions. The electrical system for the headlamp can be readily upgraded to accommodate the needs of different riding conditions, without requiring additional parts. All of these features are contained within a compact, streamlined housing that is designed to accommodate batteries (39) in a manner that maintains the center of gravity of the headlamp coincident with its mounting point, thereby increasing its stability under tough riding conditions.

    • A new battery lamp, particularly for use as a bicycle lamp, is characterized in comprising a bowl shaped base part (2), which houses both the bulb socket and the batteries (4) and is covered by a removable, transparent cover (10) that enables a free light emission from the bulb (6), but then also enables a free insight to the batteries. This latter effect, however, is prevented in that behind the portion of the cover covering the battery section there is placed a cheap plate or sheet member, which is exchangeable for providing the lamp with a desired front side colour. The lamp may appear as a set of lamps, comprising also a rear lamp which, upon removal from the bicycle, can be coupled together with the front lamp for formation of a unitary lamp structure, whereby the user can handle the two lamps as a single unit between the consecutive uses thereof.
