    • The present invention relates to devices and apparatus for detecting contact and optionally its duration and/or recording the level of pressure and/or its duration and/or recording the level of shear force and/or its duration. In particular, certain embodiments of the present invention relate to devices which comprise an element comprising a hydrophobic material and a colour-forming material dispersed in at least a portion of the hydrophobic material. Certain embodiments of the present invention relates to materials comprising a solid dispersion of a colour-forming material in an elastomeric hydrophobic material. The solid dispersion may take the form of a molecular dispersion or a partial molecular dispersion. Also included in the present invention, although not exclusively, are devices which comprise a hydrophobic material, a colour-forming material and a colour developing material wherein the colour forming material and the colour developing material are brought into contact when pressure of a predetermined threshold level is applied or removed from the device.

    • A method and process to be utilized on any printed document, where identification of the user or owner is critical. A system would include the steps of first providing a document; next, applying a clear chemical coating (20) onto at least a portion of the document; applying a non-visible image onto the chemical coated portion of the document; providing an activator solution (30); applying the activated solution to the chemically coated portion of the document to reveal the image thereupon; identifying the stamped image for assuring that the stamped image is not a counterfeit or the like. There may be further included the step of providing a second portion of the document with a coated solution for providing a fingerprint onto the treated portion of the document. The activator solution may be dispensed through various ways, such as a pad, a pen, or a spray container.

    • A coating composition for the preparation of CB coated carbonless copy paper includes a water based dispersion of a sizing agent which is such as to increase the hydrophobicity of the paper substrate. Sizing agents that are suitable include, alkyl ketene dimers and rosin derivatives, and the use of such substances has been found to reduce the measured through-thickness porosity of substrate papers with respect to the solvents employed for the colour-formers, thereby making it possible to utilise grades of paper previously considered unsuitable for use in the manufacture of carbonless copy materials. Alkyl ketene dimers that may be used include those with C12-C22 alkyl radicals, and the rosins which may be used include fortified rosins and modified rosin derivatives.

    • Encrypted markers that are not readily detectable can be revealed by treatment with a specific reagent used as a developer to reveal a readily detectable physical property of the marker, such as a characteristic fluorescence emission after excitation with a particular excitation wavelength, or to reveal a visible color.     • A security feature is imparted to record material for use in pressure-sensitive copying paper systems by dyeing the surface sizing composition and/or other coatings present in the paper and then applying the dyed composition or coating in a manner such as to produce an uneven coating pattern, for example a film-split pattern. The dye accentuates the coating pattern and produces a visual effect which is difficult to replicate without access to a papermaking or paper coating machine, and which has a distinguishably different appearance from that of the opposite surface of the reccord material. The invention is particularly suited for use with a Billblade coater which applies a dyed surface sizing composition to one surface of the paper and a pigment coating to the other surface or with a metered size press coater.
