    • Disclosed is a mixer-distributor-collector apparatus (3) for use between beds of solid particles (2) in a fluid-solid contacting vessel (1). The apparatus (3) includes a solids retaining screen (5), fluid deflector (8), passageway (9), fluid distributor (6), and flow manipulator (7). The flow manipulator (7) is a device such as a honeycomb, porous solid, perforated plate, screen, or grid having an open area greater than the open area of the fluid distributor (6) and is located below and spaced apart from the fluid distributor (6). The apparatus (3) improves the fluid flow characteristics by minimizing or eliminating fluid velocity jets and/or other turbulence which can disturb the downstream particle bed. In an exemplary application, the invention finds use in simulated moving bed (SMB) adsorptive separation processes.

    • The present invention relates to a filtering apparatus (1) for the filtration of liquids, in particular water. It comprises, inside a container (11), a first chamber (50) intended to receive liquid to be filtered, a second chamber (54) intended to receive filtered liquid, a first porous wall (51) and a second porous wall (53) which delimit a filtration chamber (40) between them. The first porous wall (51) divides the first chamber (50) from the filtration chamber (40) and the second porous wall (53) divides the second chamber (54) from the filtration chamber (40), so that the filtration chamber (40) is interposed between the first chamber (50) and the second chamber (54). A granular filter material (4) is housed in the filtration chamber (40) and is enclosed between the first porous wall (51) and the second porous wall (53). The first chamber (50) receives the liquid to be filtered at a first height (HI) which is at a higher altitude than the second height (H2) at which the second chamber (54) discharges the filtered liquid. The first chamber (50), the filtration chamber (40) and the second chamber (54) are flanked to each other and, in a section between the first height (H1) and the second height (H2), are all intersected by a plurality of horizontal planes (P) parallel to each other. In use, the liquid to be filtered passes from the first chamber (50) to the second chamber (54) substantially by gravity and through the filtration chamber (40) with a flow path having a horizontal component.

    • A filter which can be regenerated by separating and discharging the foreign matters clogging the filter, characterized in that a first entrance chamber, a second entrance chamber and an exit chamber are formed in a container provided with an inlet passage, an outlet passage and a foreign matter discharging outlet, wherein the first entrance chamber communicates with the exit chamber via a filter screen, with one of the ends communicating with the inlet passage via opening/closing means while the other end communicating with the foreign matter discharging outlet via the opening/closing means, the second entrance chamber communicates with the exit chamber via the filter screen, with one of the ends communicating with the inlet passage via the opening/closing means while the other end communicating with the foreign matter outlet via the opening/closing means, and the exit chamber communicates with the outlet passage. It is also possible to increase or decrease the capacity of the exit chamber, and to vibrate the filter screen.
