    • A toy gun (10) produces a series of travelling smoke rings (12). It has a smoke chamber (14) fed with smoke from a battery (24)-powered electrical resistance generator rear of the smoke chamber (14). A reciprocating actuator (68) movable in response to a trigger (22) strikes the diaphragm (74) to eject a smoke ring (12) through an orifice (14d) in the opposite wall (14a) of the smoke chamber (14). The smoke generator (30) includes a supply tank (32) of a suitable liquid (34) an a source (36) of variable pressure to drive the liquid (34) through a narrow annular clearance (43) to the heater (38) where it is rapidly vaporized. The generator (30) includes a pair of concentric tubes (40, 42) that define the annular clearance (43) and an electrical resistance heating element (38) mounted on one of them at a point spaced from the supply tank.

    • Toy objects such as action figures, toy robots, toy vehicles, simulated creatures, etc., are provided with apparatus for playing a shooting game which is controlled by one or more human players. Each toy includes either an energy emitter (12), an energy sensor (14), or both. The toy objects are manipulatable by the players to face the emitters and the sensors in directions to hit other toys with radiated energy or to avoid being hit by other toy objects. Preferably the emitter (12) radiates infrared light and the sensor (14) detects infrared light, and are operated from a backpack removable attached to an action figure. Control of radiating and detecting infrared light is similar to the control in the currently popular "laser" shooting games available from Toymax Inc. under the trademark "Laser Challenge".

    • A toy figure (10) includes a lower torso (12) and supporting legs (13) together with a supplemental angled support (16). An upper torso (20) and weapons backpack (30) joined thereto is pivotally supported upon the lower torso (12) and is pivoted in response to activation of a bi-directional motor and gear drive mechanism. The backpack (30) supports a plurality of projectile launchers (33-37, 40, 50) and simulated machine gun units (41, 42) which are pivotally moveable between a stored or closed configuration and a forwardly directed launch or firing configuration. A second motor operated within the upper torso (20) rotates a plurality of cam which in turn engage various latch mechanisms for release of the spring-driven projectile launchers (33-37) to fully deploy the weapons in their firing positions and to initiate projectile launch. A pair of infrared sensors (31, 32) within the weapons backpack (30) respond to commands received from a remote controller (70) worn on the user's wrist.
