摘要： A container (22) includes a shell (24) made from a polymer, for example PET, and incorporating a catalyst, for example a palladium catalyst. A closure (40) incorporates a plug which includes a source of hydrogen, for example a hydride. In use, with container (22) including a beverage and closure (40) in position, the headspace in the container will be saturated with water vapor. This vapor contacts the hydride associated with plug (42) and as a result the hydride produces molecular hydrogen which migrates into the polymer matrix of shell (24) and combines with oxygen which may have entered the container through its permeable walls. A reaction between the hydrogen and oxygen takes place, catalysed by the catalyst, and water is produced. Thus, oxygen which may ingress the container is scavenged and the contents of the container are protected from oxidation.

摘要： The present invention relates to a process for preparing a stabilised packaged dosage form, said dosage form comprising an oxidation-sensitive material, for example carotenes and carotenoids in whole dried algae of the genus Dunaliella , said method comprising: a) providing said oxidation-sensitive material and placing it in a sealable container with an oxygen scavenger, or a desiccant, or both an oxygen scavenger and a desiccant; b) sealing said container and storing said oxidation-sensitive material with said oxygen scavenger, or desiccant, or oxygen scavenger and desiccant in said sealed container for a sufficient period of time to allow for removal of substantially all free oxygen, or free moisture or substantially all free oxygen and free moisture from the environment inside said container and the environment of said oxidation-sensitive material; and c) removing said oxidation-sensitive material from said container and sealing it in substantially air-tight packaging. The present invention also relates to a stable packaged oral dosage form comprising whole dried algae, but substantially no antioxidants exogenous to said whole dried algae and a dosage form consisting essentially of whole dried Dunaliella in encapsulated, tableted or single dosage sachet form, and also relates to a method of treatment or prophylaxis of various conditions, a method for supplementing the diet of a subject, a method for maintaining or improving the general health of a subject, and a method for promoting a fake suntan on a subject, wherein said methods comprise administering to a subject an effective amount of whole dried Dunaliella rich in carotenes.
