    • The present invention relates to a process and an application for handling information in relation to meat being conveyed through a number of processing stations. The information is used to trace the processing history of a piece of meat, including its origination. The ability to trace the processing history may be used e.g. in order to trace back sources of contamination and for verification of the status and quality, weight etc. of the meat. The information is furthermore useful for the workers processing the meat at the stations or useful for the control and management of the meat processing plant.

    • A microwavable food packaging system includes a tray (12) formed from a base and a sidewall extending from the base which sidewall terminates in a free edge (18). The base and sidewall define an interior cavity. The free edge defines a tray opening. The base has a raised button (64) extending into the cavity (54). A sleeve (14) surrounds the tray. The sleeve includes a front panel having a display surface and is disposed adjacent to the tray opening and a rear panel disposed adjacent to the base. The sleeve (14) adjacent to the base extends outwardly to form a leg (16) upon which the sleeve and tray can be upstandingly placed. The tray is adapted to receive food pouches (66, 68) within the cavity. The raised button (64) stabilizes the center of gravity of the food packaging system when the food packaging system is placed in an upstanding position on the leg. Advantageously, at least one food pouch disposed in the cavity. The tray opening may be covered with the polymeric film (32) that is sufficiently self-supporting to serve as a splatter guard by being placed over the tray opening when the tray is placed into a microwave for heating of food in the tray cavity.

The invention provides a system for marking primal cuts (wholesale cuts) and sub-primal cuts (consumer cuts, retail cuts or market ready cuts) with information relating to the animal. The information may be collected throughout the different meat processing stages. The invention provides a method and apparatus for printing data collected at any stage of the supply chain within a meat processing plant directly onto the meat.
