摘要： A safety needle device for protecting a user against a needle-stick injury. This needle device includes a needle housing having a distal housing opening. A needle is disposed within the needle housing and has a distal needle portion which extends away therefrom through the distal housing opening. An elongate sheath assembly surrounds the needle within the needle housing. A trigger member retains the sheath assembly within the needle housing against a force urging the sheath assembly towards the distal housing opening. The trigger member is sized and configured to release the sheath assembly from retention to allow the sheath assembly to transition towards and out of the distal housing opening via the force. This causes the sheath assembly to enclose the distal needle portion and protect the user against the needle stick injury.

The hypodermic needle assembly according to the present invention comprises a needle, a needle hub, and a safety spring clip assembly, the safety spring clip assembly being configured to automatically launch from the needle hub and slide along the needle until the spring clip meets a needle stop at the needle tip, thus preventing the guard from being removed from the needle shaft. A method of using the hypodermic needle assembly according to the present invention is also provided, which includes the method of launching the spring clip with a syringe having multiple advancing mechanisms.

摘要： A medical needle shield apparatus is provided that includes a shield that is extensible from a retracted position to an extended position to enclose a distal end of a needle. A binding member is disposed within the shield and defines binding surfaces that form an aperture configured for slidable receipt of the needle between the retracted position and the extended position. The binding member includes at least one drag inducing member extending therefrom that is configured for slidable engagement with the needle between the retracted position and the extended position such that the at least one drag inducing member engages the needle to create a drag force with the needle. The drag force and shield cause rotation of the binding member such that the binding surfaces engage the needle to prevent slidable movement of the needle in the extended position of the shield.

The sheath (12) is joined to the housing so that an annular clearance space for the removable luer adapter assembly is maintained between the tapered hub (22) and the sheath (12). A removable cap (50) on a threaded lock on the adapter extension (42) is removed by twisting the cap in a first direction. The whole adapter assembly is removed from the tapered hub by twisting the cap in a second direction which is the same direction as the threads of the threaded lock.
