摘要： Several parasites responsible for mammalian diseases are dependent on cysteine proteases for various life-cycle functions. Inhibition or decreasing function of specific cysteine proteases can be useful in the treatment and/or prevention of these parasitic diseases including trichomoniasis, histomoniasis, coccidiosis, trypanosomiasis (trypamonosis) and cryptosporidiosis. Compounds of formula I of the invention are capable of treating and/or preventing the above-identified diseases in mammals, e.g. in avian species as Galliformes including chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, grouse, guinea fowl, peafowl, quail, partridges, and pheasants, Falconiformes, Passiformes, Columbiformes (i.e. Columba livia domestica), Psittaciformes, and in domestic mammals such as cattle, sheep, goats, horses, pigs, camels, lamas, alpacas, cats and dogs.

摘要： Cryptosporidium parvum (the cause of cryptosporidiosis) has become one of the most common enteropathogens causing diarrhea worldwide. Symptoms associated with cryptosporidiosis are very debilitating especially in the immunocompromised subject (e.g., AIDS patient). Clinical features include severe, chronic diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fatigue, weight loss, etc. which lead to increased health care costs and increased mortality. There is disclosed herein a method of inhibiting the severity of Cryptosporidium parvum infection by enterally administering a therapeutically effective amount of Lactobacillus reuteri.

摘要： The present invention relates to dairy compositions and, more particularly, to dairy compositions containing colostrum. The applicant has discovered that colostrum can be processed so as to reduce the bioburden of liquid colostrum while retaining the biological activity of certain proteins including the immunoglobulin fraction. By this process it is possible to introduce liquid colostrum into pasteurised and unpasteurised dairy products. In a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a process for the preparation of a liquid colostrum product, suitable for inclusion in dairy products, which process includes subjecting colostrum to centrifugation to substantially reduce the microbial content thereof. In a second aspect of the present invention there is provived a method of preparing a dairy composition including undenatured antibodies and/or growth factors which method includes adding to a dairy product a liquid colostrum product.

摘要： The compositions and methods described herein disclose the design, synthesis and testing of compounds that act as inhibitors of DHFR. The basic scaffold of these inhibitors includes a 2,4-diaminopyrimidine ring with a propargyl linker to another substituted aryl, bicyclo or heteroaryl ring. These DHFR inhibitors are potent and selective for many different pathogenic organisms, including the DHFR enzyme from bacteria such as Bacillus anthracis and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, fungi such as Candida glabrata, Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans and protozoa such as Cryptosporidium hominis and Toxoplasma gondii. These compounds and other similar compounds are also potent against the mammalian enzyme and may be useful as anti-cancer therapeutics.
