    • Methods and apparatus are described for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) RF over Glass (RFoG) Architecture and customer-premise-equipment (CPE). A method includes up-converting a baseband upstream data signal to a frequency band above a frequency band of a baseband downstream data signal; combining the up-converted upstream data signal with an upstream cable return; transmitting the up-converted upstream data signal and the upstream cable return using a single upstream laser; separating the frequency up-converted data signal from the upstream cable return using an RF diplexer; and down-converting the frequency up-converted upstream data signal back to baseband. An apparatus comprises: a frequency up-converter that up-converts a baseband upstream data signal to a frequency band above a frequency band of a baseband downstream data signal; a frequency combiner coupled to the frequency up-converter that combines the up-converted upstream data signal with an upstream cable return; a single upstream laser coupled to the frequency combiner that transmits the up-converted upstream data signal and the upstream cable return; an RF diplexer coupled to the single upstream laser that separats the frequency up-converted data signal from the upstream cable return; and a frequency down-converter that down-converts the frequency up-converted upstream data signal back to baseband.

In one embodiment, the system comprises a hub (e.g., 404) providing connection between one or more server/switch line replaceable units (e.g., 200/300/400) including at least one server (e.g., 300/400) and a plurality of passenger video display units (e.g., 130A/308/410). A server, such as, for example, an audio server (e.g., 105), a video server (e.g., 104), an audio/video server, a game server (e.g., 106), an application server (e.g., 103), a file server (e.g., 107), etc., provides information (e.g., entertainment programming, internet file data, etc.) to the video display unit (e.g., 130A/308/410). In one embodiment, the connection between the plurality of server/switch line replacement units (e.g., 200/300/400), the hub (e.g., 404) and the plurality of video display units (e.g., 130A/308/410) is provided by passive fiber optic links.

    • Video signal processing apparatus and methods are disclosed. An access termination terminates an access communication link that operatively couples a video service customer site to a communication network in which communication signals comprising video signals are distributed to video service customer sites. A video signal processor is co-located with the access termination and is operable to receive communication signals from the access termination, to extract a video signal from the received communication signals, and to output the extracted video signal for transfer to a display system at the video service customer site. Control signals may be received by the video signal processor from the display system over the same connection used to transfer video signals to the display system, or through a different connection such as a wireless connection. Video functions including video recording and other functions normally associated with set top video decoders may also be supported.
