摘要： The invention concerns a modulation method for modulating a stream (S) of binary data into a polarized signal (PS), the method comprising : providing a segment from the stream (S) of binary data, the segment comprising at least 4 bits; extracting two bits from the segment; decoding the two bits to select a modulation scheme among four binary phase shift keying modulation scheme presenting distinct constellation diagrams; and modulating the remaining bits of the segment into the polarized signal using the selected modulation scheme. The invention also relates to the converse demodulation method.

摘要： Techniques are described that provide nested constellations in which a lower order modulation scheme may be nested within constellation points of a higher-order modulation scheme. A higher-order modulation scheme, having a first constellation, may be used for a first subset of transmissions (e.g., data payload transmissions). A lower-order modulation scheme, having a second constellation, may be used for a second subset of transmissions (e.g., reference signal transmissions, embedded control transmissions, tapered payload transmissions, etc.). A subset of constellation points of the first constellation may be selected for transmitting the second subset of transmissions. A receiver may receive the transmissions and demodulate/decode the transmissions. In the event that other transmitters are transmitting concurrently, and using similar nested constellation techniques, the receiver may be able to perform improved interference mitigation compared to interference mitigation that may be performed on interfering signals that use different constellation points.

摘要： An approach is provided for decoding a low density parity check (LDPC) coded signal. Edge values associated with a structured parity check matrix used to generate the LDPC coded signal are retrieved from memory (1501, 1503). The edge values specify the relationship of bit nodes and check nodes, and are stored within memory according to a predetermined scheme that permits concurrent retrieval of a set of the edge values. A decoded signal corresponding to the LDPC coded signal is output based on the retrieved edge values.

摘要： A method and system for the transmission, reception, and processing of 4-level and 8-level signaling symbols is provided. An inventive modulator is provided for modulating 4-level signaling symbols using an 8-level modulator. Further, this inventive modulator is able to produce 4-level modulation when modulating 4-level signaling symbols using an 8-level modulator, where the 4-level modulation represents the 4-level symbol sequence modulated. Further, a constrained/unconstrained demodulator is provided which is able to demodulate both 4-level signaling symbols and 8-level signaling symbols. The inventive demodulator accomplishes this by limiting the number of new symbol hypotheses and path histories to 4 when working with 4-level signaling symbols, and setting the number of new symbol hypotheses and path histories to 8 when working with 8-level signaling symbols. Additionally, an error correction decoder is provided which is also able to decode a demodulated signal which contains both 4-level and 8-level signaling symbols. The inventive error correction decoder accomplishes this by utilizing an interleaver that only places bits in the 2-bit positions of the 3-PSK soft values that correspond to the 2-bits of QPSK to decode 4-level signalling symbols, and utilizing an interleaver that places bits in all three of the possible bit positions of a symbol to decode 8-level signalling symbols.

摘要： An optimum communication system employs an encoder (94) coupled to a mapper (96) and two parallel branches (I and Q), each branch having a transmit filter (98a and 98b), a digital-to-analog converter (99a and 99b), a low pass filter (100a and 100b) and a modulator coupled in series (102a and 102b). Both modulators are coupled to a summer (97) which provides an rf signal to a transmit antenna (103). A second antenna (104) is coupled to a first down converter (106), an IF filter (107), a second down converter (109), an analog-to-digital converter (108) and a decoder (111). The encoder is optimized by choosing a desired minimum Euclidean distance between symbols multiplied by the average to peak transmit power ratio (MPDR), an encoder alphabet and a number of constellation points. All possible encoder states and all possible input symbols are permutated to result in a plurality of encoder sets. The minimum distance between coded symbols and a Pib/Pab power ratio for each code set is determined. The encoder is adapted to output an encoder set U having a largest Pib/Pab power ratio having a large adjacent channel interference protection ratio. In an alternative embodiment, a minimum Pib/Pab power ratio (MPR) is chosen. The encoder is adapted to output an encoder set U having the largest minimum distance between coded symbols multiplied by the average to peak transmitted power ratio, that also has a Pib/Pab ratio that exceeds MPR.

The method comprises the following steps: encoding an information bit and generating a block coded with an NCBPSS bit; generating two sub-blocks by parsing the coded block; and transmitting the two sub-blocks to the transmitter. By preventing the bits that are contiguous to the encoding block from having continuous identical reliabilities on a signal constellation, the deterioration of the decoding performance of the transmitter can be prevented.
