    • In an optical code sensor of the type in which a signal derived from a light beam encoded with digital data is obtained by extracting transitions, an adjustable bandwidth filter is interposed before processing to extract the data. The distance of the optical code is detected, and the filter bandwidth is increased in relationship to the distance of the bar code. Preferably, the input signal to the filter is applied to a shift register and the output at each stage of the register is multiplied by a predetermined coefficient calculated to achieve a particular waveshape, preferably a Gaussian waveshape, via the entire set of coefficients. The register stage outputs, multiplied by the coefficients are then added together to produce a filtered output signal applied to the processor.

    • A linear transimpedance amplifier includes a forward transimpedance circuit that receives an input signal from an optical device. The forward transimpedance circuit generates a linear output signal. The forward transimpedance circuit includes a first gain path and a second gain path, the first gain path configured to amplify the input signal when the first gain path is at a lower input impedance relative to the second gain path and the second gain path configured to amplify the input signal when the second gain path is at a lower input impedance relative to the first gain path. A feedback circuit includes a first circuit that detects a low frequency component of the output signal. The feedback circuit further includes a second circuit that is driven by the low frequency component of the output signal and is connected with the forward transimpedance circuit such that the second circuit uses an average optical device current to at least partially control when the input signal is amplified by the first gain path and when the input signal is amplified by the second gain path.

    • A fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) system transmits forward and reverse optical signals, such as video, voice, and data signals, via optical fiber, and includes a plurality of home network units. The home network units include an optical receiver for receiving at least one of the video, voice, and data signals. Included is a plurality of gain stages that are distributed throughout the optical receiver. The gain stages include a preamplifier stage, two interstage amplifiers, and a postamplifier stage. Two gain control circuits automatically adjust the gain of the video signal based upon the input power level to the FTTH optical receiver. Additionally, a tilt network performs level compensation for externally located coaxial cable. A signal is then provided to a device located within a home via the coaxial cable at the proper RF level having low noise signals.
