摘要： The present invention is directed to systems and methods for recording, storing and playing back audio and video works. In one embodiment, a method of presenting a variable work, such as an audio track, to a user includes presenting a first version of the work to the user. The first version has a trigger point therein. The method includes presenting a second version of the work to the user if the first version trigger point is reached during the presentation of the first version. If the first version trigger point is not reached, the first version is re-presented. In this manner, the use of a trigger point within the work can help determine whether the user should be presented with the same work again, or a different version of the work, upon subsequent views or listenings of the work.

摘要： A recording apparatus for recording digital information signals on a removable rewritable disc like recording medium has been proposed. The apparatus comprises writing means (21, 22, 25) for recording the digital information signals and control means (20) for controlling the recording. The apparatus is capable of performing initialization, formatting and defect management of a rewritable medium. Further, the apparatus is capable of storing first file system data in a user area (UA) and second file system data in a general application area (GAA) on the medium. The control means (20) are adapted to enlarge GAA and to store the second file system data in it. This increases a number of files in UA, which can be addressed by the second file system data.

摘要： A method and system for providing the creation of a visual summary of a video source during fast forward/rewind of the video can be created by using extracting frames either automatically or manually to create an initial visual summary. A series of weights may be assigned to the extracted frames, which are then filtered according to the relative weights to create a modified visual summary. The keyframe display rate is then adjusted according tot he fast forward/rewind speed, which can be either a standard speed or user selected speed, so as to display the keyframes while the video source is being fast forwarded/rewound. The keyframes may be substituted by selected images and audio, so that an advertiser can substitute an image of the product and a brief audio summary while the user is fast forwarding/rewinding past the commercial message.

摘要： A video media storage control system to control a video media storage device, be it for a tape or other storage media, includes means for sending commands to the device to instigate positioning of the video media at a desired position and where the desired position is arrived at automatically by reading the video media to obtain position information, directly or indirectly, and changing the position of the video media until the desired position has been obtained. Positioning may be for record or playback purposes. According to one aspect of the invention selection of the desired position at least for playback is controlled selectively from a display of the index of contents of the video media, which display includes at least one image of the contents and preferably a plurality of images on the media taken at discrete intervals. Positioning of the video media may utilise characterisation data for the video media storage device. More particularly the position information is obtained by reading position data recorded on the tape or alternatively by generating position data from the contents of the video tape for example by reading the tape and generating a data sequence or data value derived from the contents of the tape and storing same in memory in conjunction with position information.
