    • A tray for holding and carrying multiple HDD heads. On the surface of a positioning section (12, 15), the tray (10) has fine projections facing places where HDD heads (30) are set. An example of the fine projection is a hemispheric projection (20) having a height (several 100 mu m) a little larger than the thickness of a wiring (34). Another example is a linear projection (21) of several 100 mu m in width and several mm in length. This constitution allows the wiring section of the HDD heads (30) to touch the positioning section (12, 15) of the tray (10) only at the fine projections (20, 21), thus making friction between the two small sufficiently. Therefore, it is ensured those problems such as damage to and cut of the wiring (34) due to friction is prevented.

    • A head loading mechanism (10) for a removable cartridge disk drive comprises a support base (32) fixedly mounted in the drive, and a movable member (12) movably attached to the support base (32) via a pair of elongate flexures (28, 30). The movable member (12) has a ramped surface (14a, 14b, 16a, 16b) adapted to engage a suspension arm (52, 54) at the distal end of an actuator (41). A read/write head (56, 58) is mounted on the suspension arm (52, 54). The movable member (12) moves upon the flexures (28, 30) in tandem with the actuator (41) as it moves toward and away from the edge of a disk (62, 64) in the drive. The movable member (12) carries the suspension arm (52, 54) of the actuator (41) to the edge of the disk (62, 64), at which point the suspension arm (52, 54) can ride up and down the ramped surface (14a, 14b, 16a, 16b) of the movable member (12) in order to load the read/write head (56, 58) onto the surface of the disk (62, 64) and then subsequently unload the read/write head (56, 58).

    • A Head Gimbal Assembly (HGA) loader using sub-ambient air pressure to move a magnetic head of the HGA over a test surface. Clamp (10) mounts HGA (12) adajcent to nozzle (24). Nozzle (24) draws in air (30) through orifice (50) creating a sub-ambient pressure region below suspension beam (18), causing ambient air to flow into the created sub-ambient void. Air flow (30) moves suspension beam (18) away from the surface of disk (22) unloading HGA (12). The sub-ambient pressure level and the separation between head (14) and disk (22) is varied by a computer controlled regulator valve (32). The loader can be used in a flying height tester calibrated by taking optical data while varying flying height by changing sub-ambient pressure. The sub-ambient pressure created by orifice (50) causes HGA (12) to bend about its natural pivot point or the bend radius of the suspension or load beam (18), which does not create additional slider angles during testing, nor introduce any mechanical sliding motion which could generate debris.
