A file indication processor (305) generates a first linear file indication for the circular buffer (303) which are transmitted to media clients (203). The linear file indication has a first file timing indication. A receiver (313) can receive a media request message from at least one media client (203) comprising a request for media indicated by the first linear file indication and including a playback start indication relative to the first file timing indication. A playback controller (315) determines a playback point for the circular buffer in response to the playback start indication and a media transmitter (317) transmits media from the first circular buffer (303) to the at least one media client (203) in response to the playback point. If the request is outside the circular buffer (303) a predetermined stream indicating that the requested media is unavailable is transmitted.

摘要： The present invention proposes a methods and apparatus for writing/reading a data block onto/from an information carrier with M-spots schemes and such an information carrier. The method comprises the steps of dividing the data block into N portions according to predetermined writing capacities for each one of the N writers of the M-spots schemes, N and M being integers not less than 2 and N≤M, and writing simultaneously the N portions of data onto the information carrier with the N writers correspondingly. Since all the writers are processing different portions of one data block, the data rate of processing one data block is increased almost N times. Therefore the period that the certain buffer capacity occupied by a data block is decreased substantially, total buffering capacity may be decreased, that means the cost of the schemes is dropped substantially.

According to one aspect, a battery-powered portable media device can manage use of a mass storage device to efficiently utilize battery power. According to another aspect, a portable media device can operate efficiently in a seek mode. The seek mode is an operational mode of the portable media device in which the portable media device automatically scans through media items to assist a user in selecting a desired one of the media items.

The need for a layer jump occurs, independently from the current level of filling of the buffer, when a storage space associated to a first layer has been exhausted. In order to be able to store the digital signal in the buffer while the layer jump is accomplished, it is proposed to decrease the resolution in the encoding of the audio-video signal, so as to have the level in the buffer growing relatively slowly when the layer jump occurs.

摘要： An electromechanical data storage arrangement is interfaced with a host. The interface may include a conductor that carries read and write gate signals. Another conductor carries both a servo sync mark and an error signal. The storage arrangement includes an external serial interface connected to a host serial interface applying a device identification to a portion of serial control-related data that travels over the interface. A serial router in the storage arrangement uses the device identification to manage the control-related data between the interface and a number of serial devices and associated interfaces within the storage arrangement.
