    • Embodiments of an electronic instrument simulating a percussion instrument using capacitive touch sensitive sensors are described herein. Embodiments described comprise an art layer, a sensor layer, a shielding layer, an electronics package and a speaker. The art layer has depictions of one or more percussion instruments. The sensor layer is deposed under the art layer. The sensor layer has one or more instrument sensors, each comprising one or more capacitive touch sensors. Instrument sensors are positioned underneath one of the depicted percussion instruments in the art layer so that a finger tapping the depicted instrument will trigger the sensor. The capacitive touch sensors are electrically connected to the electronics package configured to detect changes in capacitance when a particular capacitive touch sensor is touched, causing the electronics package to play on the speaker a sound sample of an percussion instrument associated with that capacitive touch sensor.

    • The preferred assembly combines a practice pad and a cadence generating device in the same body. In other embodiments, the device (26B) provides visual prompting (34) to the user on the striking pad. Furthermore, the device of the present invention includes a local repository of cadence programs (30B), as well as the ability to retrieve and play cadence programs stored in remote cadence repositories (38), such as on a computer network or a portable storage media.     • Systems, methods, and devices for providing interactive striking objects (e.g., drumsticks) and performing actions in response to striking motions of the striking objects are disclosed. In some embodiments, the systems and methods provide an interactive drumstick, which includes a lighting display located at a tip portion of the interactive drumstick, a motion detector contained at least partially within the drumstick, a processor and memory contained at least partially within the drumstick, and an interactive system stored within the memory of the drumstick. The interactive system includes a striking motion module that determines striking motions of the drumstick with respect to a virtual percussion instrument based on accessing information measured by the motion detector, and a display module that causes the lighting display to present a certain type of illumination based on the striking motions determined by the striking motion module.

A drum playing system according to the present invention comprises: a drum for playing which includes a plurality of drum-shaped or symbol-shaped drum parts, and each drum part is connected with a playing-signal sensing unit for sensing a playing state of the corresponding drum part; a playing-signal output device which outputs a MIDI signal corresponding to playing state information of each drum part applied from the drum for playing; and a playing control device which displays, through an information display unit, drum playing note information generated through the use of a MIDI file corresponding to a piece of music and on/off information of a played sound corresponding to the MIDI file, outputs an accompaniment note of a selected piece of music as a sound, and displays a drum playing state based on MIDI information inputted from the playing-signal output device.
