    • A standalone biometric authorization control device (10) comprises an input device (110) configured to receive a time sensitive authorization code comprising encrypted information about an authorization time schedule. Connected to the input device (110) is a control unit (120), configured to extract the authorization time schedule from the time sensitive authorization code, and to compare the extracted authorization time schedule with the current date and time. Connected to and controlled by the control unit (120) is a biometric sensor (130), which is configured to obtain biometric data from a user. The control unit (120) is further configured to register the biometric data obtained from the user into the current standalone biometric authorization control device (10) if the current date and time is within a time interval when registering of biometric data is allowed according to the extracted authorization time schedule.

    • An electronic door lock is programmable to accept new valid data key devices using a special data key device from with a set of special data key devices used for programming and control purposes. The lock has a learn mode controller responsive to a learn data key device to enter into a new valid access data key learn mode. A valid access code recorder is responsive to a first previously unknown code contained in a first new data key device while in the learn mode to record the first unknown code as a valid access code for operating said lock. A cancel code recorder is responsive to a second previously unknown code contained in a second new data key device while in the learn mode to record the second unknown code as a cancel code paired with the valid access code of the first new data key device. In use, the lock is activated to open in response to the valid access code of the first new data key device, and is activated to cancel the recorded valid access code in response to the cancel code of said second data key device. The lock is able to operate with any data key device without requiring preprogramming specific to the lock. Programming and control is made easier by hierarchical distinctly labeled special data key devices used for specific corresponding programming and control purposes.

    • A vehicle security system includes a vehicle security sensor and associated sensor bus interface (60), an alarm indicator and associated alarm indicator bus interface (64), and an alarm controller and associated alarm controller bus interface (65) for interfacing the alarm controller. The vehicle security system is for a vehicle of a type including a data communications bus (62) connecting a plurality of vehicle devices. The security system preferably further includes a desired signal enabling circuit (17) for enabling the alarm controller to operate using a set (72a, 72b, 72n) of desired signals for a desired vehicle from among a plurality of possible sets of signals for different vehicles. Accordingly, the desired signal enabling circuit (17) permits the alarm controller to communicate with the vehicle security sensor and the alarm indicator via the data communications bus so that the alarm controller is capable of operating the alarm indicator responsive to the vehicle security sensor. The desired signal enabling circuit may preferably include a memory for storing a plurality of respective sets of signals for different vehicles, and a selecting circuit for selecting the desired set of signals from the plurality of different sets of signals for different vehicles. The desired signal enabling circuit may also be included in other vehicle remote control systems. Method aspects of the invention are also disclosed.

    • Disclosed herein is a process for pairing one or more wireless transmitters with a power head unit of a barrier opening system prior to delivering the system to the end user. In one facility, an authorization code of a wireless transmitter is received and passed to a printer that prints an encoded label with indicia corresponding to the authorization code. The so- encoded label is affixed to the wireless transmitter or its packaging or pallet. In another facility, the encoded label is thereafter scanned, and the authorization code is deciphered and stored in a database. The power head is programmed with the identical code by placing the power head into a learn mode, retrieving the deciphered authorization code from the database, and transmitting the retrieved code to the power head using a test transmitter while the power head is in the learn mode, with the power head thereafter moved out of the learn mode, thereby pairing the transmitter with the power head. The so-programmed power head and wireless transmitter are then packaged for sale and distribution to the end user of the barrier opening system.

    • A system and method for training a learning transceiver to a movable barrier system includes a learning transceiver that is configured for being trained to the movable barrier system. To provide ease of use to consumers, a user is able to train the learning transceiver to the movable barrier system without needing to push a button on a movable barrier operator or use a pretrained transmitter. To this end, a movable barrier operator is configured to transmit a transmission signal to the learning transceiver including a rolling access code, which is used to train the learning transceiver. To maintain the security of the movable barrier system and to restrict unauthorized users from accessing the movable barrier system, the movable barrier operator waits to transmit the transmission signal, including the rolling access code, to the learning transceiver until it has received an indication that a predetermined event occurred.
