    • The invention relates to an order placement and delivery system (10) in which a final delivery address of a recipient (22) is obscured or not known to an instructing party (termed "the sender") 14. The sender (14) establishes a communication session with an administrator (16) via a network (12). The communication session typically uses SMS messaging or data packets communicated via a computer connection. The sender (14) sets up an account with the administrator (16) and is referenced by a unique sender identity stored in a secure database (18). The sender places an order for a gift (26) against the unique sender identity and relays to the administrator (16) a recipient's virtual contact address, such as a recipient's mobile telephone number. Contemporaneously, the sender constructs a personal message which is routed, either directly or indirectly, to the virtual contact address. The point of origin of the personal message may, as necessary in an indirect path, be "spoofed" to the extent that receipt of the personal message is inferred to be directly from the sender. The personal message provides assurance to the intended recipient and forewarns the recipient that they will be messaged by the administrator to acquire a real-world physical address that will be used for physical gift delivery. When the recipient responds to the administrator with the physical address, this physical address is stored in database (18) against the virtual contact address. The recipient is therefore registered by the system to the extent that future orders identifying the recipient's virtual contact address can be dispatched expeditiously to the recipient's physical address with reduced messaging overhead and without having to reveal the recipient's physical address to the sender (14).

    • Embodiments provide methods, apparatus, systems, and computer-readable media associated with using historic analytic data to identify shipping options for a user to use when shipping a package. Historic analytic data may be received and maintained by a package shipment facilitation system. The analytics may then be used to generate business rules which may be applied to parameters for a package that is to be shipped. Through application of the business rules, one or more preferred shipping options may be identified. Business rules may be received after being manually-generated by a user, or may be automatically generated based at least in part on the maintained historic analytics. After a shipping option is chosen for the package, a shipping label may be printed for the package, and the package may be entered into a carrier's system for processing.
