    • A method of loading a borehole for directional blasting comprises placing two or more cartridges containing a primary explosive into the borehole, the cartridges being spaced evenly apart and abutting 10% to 50% of the borehole perimeter on a desired direction of blasting; securing wiring to a detonator in each cartridge, the wiring connectable to a controller that can activate all of the detonators simultaneously; and filling a remainder of the borehole with an emulsion or ANFO having a lower velocity of detonation (VOD) than the primary explosive. A system of interlocking cartridges for use in the method and a method of loading a borehole for main field blasting are also disclosed.

    • A wellbore perforating system and method with reliable and safer connections in a perforating gun assembly is disclosed. The system/method includes a gun string assembly (GSA) deployed in a wellbore with multiple perforating guns attached to plural switch subs. The perforating guns are pre-wired with a cable having multi conductors; the multi conductors are connected to electrical ring contacts on either end of the perforating guns. The switch subs are configured with electrical contacts that are attached to the electrical contacts of the perforating guns without the need for manual electrical connections and assembly in the field of operations.The system further includes detonating with a detonator that is positioned upstream of the perforating gun. The detonator is wired to a switch that is positioned downstream of the perforating gun.

    • Systems, methods, blasting machines and wireless bridge units are presented for wireless blasting for safe firing of detonators under control of a remote wireless master controller in which the blasting machine is connected by cabling to the wireless bridge unit and power to a firing circuit of the blasting machine is remotely controlled via the bridge unit. The bridge unit selectively provides first and second firing messages to the blasting machine contingent upon acknowledgment of safe receipt of the first firing message by the blasting machine, and the blasting machine fires the connected detonators only if the first and second firing messages are correctly received from the bridge unit. A wireless slave blasting machine is disclosed, including a wireless transceiver for communicating with a remote wireless master controller, which fires the connected detonators only if first and second firing messages are wirelessly received from the master controller.
