    • Improved blast resistant container assemblies and processes for their formation using a special band- winding technique around the corner areas of each band. High performance fibrous materials are continuously wound around a mandrel having edges that meet at indented corner areas, to create a multilayered rectangular band. These indented corner areas have a small radius of curvature to reduce the stress concentration and avoid excessive bending of the band material during winding. This winding procedure gives a slack for the internal band layers at the corners that is not provided using the conventional straight winding technique, achieving a uniform tension of the inner and outer band layers upon an explosion and minimizing blast related damage.

    • A system and method for a packaging system for the shipment of high explosive components is described. One or more explosive devices (20) are positioned in a tubing assembly having opposed ends and a thick wall of relatively low-density fibrous material, e.g. rolled paper tube. An impact absorbing element is positioned at each end of the tube (36). The impact absorbing element may include an end cap (38) positioned within each end of the tube, and a cushion formed of partial tubes (44) and an end cap (38). The complete assembly is sized to fit and be held in position by a standard shipping container. Multiple perforating charges in a tubing assembly may face opposite sides of a charge divider (32). Shaped charges may have their concave openings filled with a jet interrupter (42), e.g. sand. Circular charges may include heat releasable fasteners, e.g. nylon screws, which allow the charges to separate in case of fire.

    • Invention provides a method of manufacturing an inexpensive, hermetically sealed ammunition container by using a conventional canning operation where the ammunition is inserted into cans that have been enamel coated inside and out and placed between resilient cushioning plugs and put into a vacuum chamber. All of the atmosphere/oxygen and atmospheric moisture that may be present in the can is removed and replaced with an inert gas before the can is sealed. This operation fulfills the need for a method of storing ammunition over an extended period. The invention also provides a unique buoyant watertight sealed ammunition container and method of manufacturing an inexpensive, buoyant watertight sealed ammunition container by the use of conventional manufacturing methods. Spacer ribs are used on the interior of the container such that enough volume is maintained around the boxes of ammunition to give the desired buoyancy of the container if dropped in the water.
