    • A belt tensioner system includes a belt tensioner (112, 212) and a bumper idler pulley (114, 214). The belt tensioner includes an arm (116, 216) which is adapted to be rotatably-biased, and includes a tensioner idler pulley (118, 218) which is supported by the arm (116, 216) and which travels in an arcuate path when the arm rotates. The bumper idler pulley (114, 214) is positioned at least partially in the arcuate path to stop the travel of the tensioner idler pulley (118, 218) when the arm (116, 216) rotates to a predetermined rotational position. In one application, the belt tensioner system is for an automotive vehicle (126, 226).

    • An apparatus for indicating an automotive power transmission belt dynamic is provided. The apparatus includes a belt tensioner (10) including a support housing (12) and an arm (14) rotatably connected to the support housing. A pulley (20) is carried by the arm (14), the pulley having a belt-engaging surface (22). A spring (13) is connected to the arm (14) and support housing (12) to bias the arm to pivot relative to the support housing. A sensor (24) is responsive to an input associated with a position of the arm (14) relative to the sensor, the sensor (24) providing an indication in response to receipt of the input. A signaling device (106) is configured to provide a signal to a user in response to the indication provided by the sensor (24).

    • A tensioner enables easy and reliable reinstallation of the tensioner and belt in the field service while simultaneously making it possible to utilize a one-way clutch device to ensure continuous belt tension control without cumbersome manual alignment and/or realignment procedures. The tensioner has a pivot shaft configured for mounting on an engine surface. A tensioner arm is mounted on the pivot shaft for pivotal movement between a free arm stop position and premount stop position. A belt-engaging pulley is mounted for rotation on the tensioner arm. A base cup is rotatably mounted around an end of the pivot shaft. The base cup has an arcuate slot having a free arm stop end and a premount stop end. The tensioner arm cooperates with the arcuate slot limiting the pivotal movement of the tensioner arm. A spring is coupled between the tensioner arm and the base cup biasing the tensioner arm in a belt-tensioning direction. An anti- kickback stop mechanism engages the pivot shaft and has a lost motion connection with the tensioner arm wherein the tensioner arm moves through a free range without engaging the anti-kickback mechanism. The tensioner arm 1) rotates the anti-kickback mechanism as the tensioner arm moves beyond the free range towards the premount stop position and 2) enables the anti-kickback mechanism as the tensioner arm moves beyond the free range towards the free arm stop position, limiting travel of the tensioner arm therebeyond. The spring is fixable relative to the pivot shaft upon the tensioner being mounted on the engine surface.

    • The lock plate (90) is engaged with the stop plate (80). As a mounting fastener (980) is engaged into a mounting surface the pivot arm member (50) is automatically disengaged from the base plate member (23) by an axial movement of the pivot arm (50), thereby allowing the pivot arm (50) to rotate and thereby impart a torsion spring (40) force to a belt, i.e., tensioning the belt in an operating position. During the initial movement the lock plate (90) remains engaged with the stop plate thereby causing the lock plate (90) to rotate with the pivot arm (50), which automatically and properly indexes the pivot arm (50) movement travel stop members (80) with respect to the lock plate (90), thereby automatically setting a working range. As the fastener (980) is then fully torqued down, the lock plate (90) is fully disengaged from the pivot arm (50) and yet fixed in position to allow full operation of the pivot arm in the operating range.

    • A tensioner for generating tension in a power-transmitting belt (12, 12A, 112, 112A) is provided.
