    • A hydraulic pump or motor (50)includes a body (52) having a chamber (54) and a rotor (60) rotatably mounted within the chamber. The chamber (54) and the rotor (60) are shaped to define one or more rise regions (61,63), fall regions (63,65), major dwell regions (62,64) and minor dwell regions (67,69) between walls of the chamber (54) and the rotor (60). The rotor (60) has a plurality of slots (84) and vanes (86) located in each slot (84). Each vane (60) is movable between a retracted position and an extended position. In the retracted position, the vanes (86) are unable to work the hydraulic fluid introduced into the chamber (54). In the extended position the vanes (86) are able to work the hydraulic fluid introduced into the chamber (54). Vane retaining means (88) that are selectively actuable enable the vanes to be retained in the retracted position.

    • The invention relates to a roller vane pump for pumping transmission fluid in an automatic transmission for motor vehicles. The pump is provided with a pump housing (2), a rotatable carrier (3) located in the interior of the pump housing (2), a cam ring (5) surrounding the carrier (3) in radial direction, and roller elements (7) being provided in slots (6) in the carrier periphery. Known pumps used in artificial lift methods suffer from a number of problems/disadvantages - e.g. low efficiency (hydraulic efficiency). The disclosed embodiments of the invention provide a pump (5, 5') which provides a positive displacement of a predetermined volume of well production fluid for each operative cycle of the pump - in contra-distinction known to pumps which provide axial flow of well production fluid. The inventive pump (5, 5') provides a chamber (10, 10') having a volume (V, V'), an inlet (15) to the chamber (10, 10'), an outlet (20) from the chamber (10, 10'), and means for varying the volume (V, V') of the chamber (10, 10'). The means for varying the volume (V, V') of the chamber (10, 10') is controlled by relative rotation of first and second bodies (30, 35; 30', 35').

    • A dual lobe, split ring, variable displacement roller vane pump is provided for supplying an aircraft engine varying amount of fuel. In a preferred application, the pump is used with a gas turbine engine. The pump includes a housing having an inlet and an outlet, a rotor rotatably mounted within the housing and having a plurality of slots, and a plurality of roller vanes operatively mounted within the slots. The pump further includes a pair of port plates mounted on either side of the rotor and two cam segments received around the rotor. The cam segments each have a curvilinear surface for cooperating with the rotor, the port plates, and the roller vanes to define a plurality of pumping chambers. The cam segments are independently movable to create varying volumetric pumping chambers along the curvilinear surface of the cam segments.

    • A roller vane motor for downhole drilling comprises a housing (1) and a rotor (3). The housing contains outlet ports (7) and wing deflector cams (2) that divide the space between housing and rotor into chambers (6a, b). When the rollers (5 ) reach the wing deflector cams (2) they are forced into the retracted position, their tasks being taken over by rollers (5 ).
