    • The invention relates to a method and arrangement for reducing dust-related problems in rock drilling. Air and liquid mist is supplied into a drilling hole to moisten the dust that comes off the drilling hole. The air and moistened dust exiting from the drilling hole are led to a dust separator, dust portions that collect into the dust separator being removed therefrom at suitable intervals. When dust is to be removed from the dust separator s filter, liquid is supplied to the portion below the filter in a mist-like form or as small droplets in connection with the dust removal to moisten the dust which then falls out of the lower end of the dust separator.

    • In a well drilling system a fire suppression apparatus (10) includes a pressure rated bell nipple or enclosure member (26) mounted on the blowout preventer (22) and including an elongated central passage opening at one end to an enlarged bore portion (58) adjacent a restabbing flange (50). Diametrically opposed convergent nozzles (64, 66) open into the enlarged bore portion (58) and are connected to a source of pressure water and/or a source of pressure fire extinguishing fluid (78, 80) by way of a manifold and respective remotely controllable shut off valves and check valves (82, 84, 86). The enclosure (26) replaces a conventional bell nipple and provides an added measure of fire suppression protection in the event of uncontrolled flow of well fluids from the well. Branch conduit sections (44, 52) are connected to the main conduit section of the enclosure (26) to provide a cuttings evacuation fluid flow line and a fill up or well fluid diversion line.

The backflow collection system, in this embodiment, further includes an auger 560 coupled proximate the lower section of the collection vessel, the auger configured to receive solid and liquid matter from a bottom opening in the lower section of the collection vessel, and when elevated remove at least a portion of the solid and liquid matter from the collection vessel, the collection vessel designed such that when fluid is contained therein it acts as a liquid/gas seal to prevent the pressurized gas from exiting through the bottom opening in the lower section of the collection vessel.
