    • A device having a high sound absorption ability and intended for use as floor, wall and/or ceiling facing in so-called echo-free rooms (10), i.e. in acoustic measuring rooms designed according to international standard, ISO-3745, in picture and sound recording studios, in sound laboratories etc, in which a sound propagation as in a free field is desired. The new device is based on sound absorbents in the form of plates (16, 20) forming a substrate support (16) and units (20) projecting obliquely from this which are so placed that they have a wave-like cross-section. The size and reciprocal angular conditions of the sound absorbents (20) projecting from the substrate support (16) are chosen so that at least double reflection is always obtained before a sound wave deriving from a measuring object (12) is directed from the device. The sound absorption ability is further increased by utilizing a low-frequency cavity resonance between the projecting sound absorbents (20) and the substrate support (16).

    • A ceiling system in one embodiment, includes a support grid including intersecting grid support members and grid openings formed between the grid support members. A vertical baffle is positioned in a grid opening and is attached to the support grid. The baffle includes opposing front and rear faces extending between opposing lateral sides of the baffle. First and second mounting grooves formed in the baffle engage and support the baffle from the grid. In one embodiment, one of the mounting grooves is disposed in each lateral side to support the baffle from opposite sides. The baffle may further include a third mounting groove formed in the rear face which engages the support grid to help align and squarely register the baffle with respect to the grid for clean linear visuals. In one embodiment, the grid support members may have a standard T-shaped cross section.

    • A multipurpose sound plate which functions as a sound reflecting plate and a sound scattering plate, is easy to store and to install, and looks pretty is provided. The multipurpose sound plate includes a body having a flat shape and a plurality of wings, each of which is hinged on one surface of the body to pivot and which are arranged in a plurality of rows. The tilt angles of the wings are controlled to accurately control the reflection rate and scattering rate of sound. The multipurpose sound plate is conveniently installed and set up. Also, the multipurpose sound plate is freely installed anywhere so that reflected sound can properly be controlled. Moreover, a plurality of bodies can easily be connected to each other at freely controlled angles. The bodies can be folded to reduce space required for storage, fixed at certain angles, and constituted as a simply assembled body. Also, the multipurpose sound plate can be manufactured at low cost and the bodies can be folded up and used as a frame or some other kind of decoration.
