    • A buffer conveyor for conveying and buffering products comprises a first elongated conveyor (7) and a second elongated conveyor (8) that can be driven in an opposite direction. The first and the second conveyor extend in a path at least substantially parallel to each other and beside each other. A transfer unit (11) is movable at least substantially parallel to the first and the second conveyor in the aforesaid path and is provided with a transfer device (17) for transferring the products from the first conveyor to the second conveyor. The transfer unit comprises a drive unit for moving the transfer unit, preferably in dependence on the velocities of the first and the second conveyor. The drive unit of the transfer unit comprises a drive motor (12), which follows the movements of the transfer unit at least in part.

    • An apparatus (10) is provided for controlling the flow of articles. The apparatus includes a first conveyor (14) driven in a first direction and a second conveyor (20) driven in a second opposite direction. The conveyors extend in a side-by-side and parallel relationship with a space defined therebetween. A movable transport member (28) is disposed within the space (26) between the conveyors and defines a bridge (30) that extends across the space and is generally flush with the upper surfaces (18, 24) of the conveyors. The transport member is drivingly engaged by the conveyors depending on a speed differential of the conveyors. An article transfer member (42) is carried by the transport member and is disposed transversely to the conveyors to contact and transfer the articles from the first conveyor over the bridge member and onto the second conveyor.

    • In a method for buffering products (P), such as bottles, cans and pots, wherein the products are carried upwards on a moving, inclined first conveying surface (7) at a first flow rate. The products on said conveying surface can accumulate against a guide member (11) at the upper end, after which the products are guided from the guide member onto a second conveying surface (8), on which they are conveyed onwards at a second flow rate. The first conveying surface (7) is disposed at an such angle and is provided with such a surface condition that the dragging force exerted on the products from the first conveying surface is just a little greater than the force of gravity being exerted on the products in the direction along the conveying surface. As a result, products (P) can be buffered in a simple manner, whilst the products exert only little pressure on each other.
