摘要： A method and article for microwave bonding of thermplastic closures such as that used in splicing telecommunications wires. The article is a composite bonding material (CBM) having a thermoplastic matrix (preferably polyethylene) which is miscible with the thermoplastic material of the closure, and a plurality of microwave susceptor particles dispersed throughout the matrix. A strip is fashioned from the CBM and may be applied to the sealing edges of the closure. Upon application of microwave energy in an amount sufficient to heat the susceptors and cause both the CBM matrix and the adjacent portion of the closure to melt and flow together, a fusion bond is produced which seals the closure. If the closure is being used with a cable having an inner conductive layer or sheath, a second CBM may be used at this seal, having magnetically reactive susceptors.

摘要： A microwave package (10) is provided containing a quantity of hot melt adhesive (14) including cements, coatings, and sealants, having a melt temperature range which is capable of being changed from a substantially solid state to a flowable state when subjected to microwave energy. The hot melt adhesive (14) may be of the type which is activatable without microwave susceptors, i.e., of a water retaining type, or may be of a type including microwave susceptors (34). The package preferably comprises a flexible pouch (12) defining a chamber within which the hot melt adhesive is received. The receptable includes a layer of microwave transparent material (16) for defining the chamber (13). A dispensing means (24) is provided as part of the pouch for permitting the hot melt adhesive to be dispensed from the pouch by squeezing the flexible pouch when the hot melt adhesive is microwave heated to its flowable state. Also, the package advantageously includes an insulating means (30) for facilitating the handling of the package and the dispensing of hot melt adhesive from the package when the hot melt adhesive is microwave heated to its flowable state.

摘要： A container body is sealed with a cover consisting of an insulating flexible sheet, and an antenna consisting of a conductive band is laminated on the cover. Consequently, when the container body is exposed to microwaves in a microwave range, the energy of the microwaves is focused to a position in the vicinity of the tip portion of the antenna. This energy is converted into heat, with which the cover is opened. The cover is thus melt-opened reliably to a suitable size.

摘要： A piece of microwave-active tape which is odor-free and physiologically inert can be adhered to a food package and remains strongly adhered during cooking at temperatures of at least 200 DEG C. The tape has layers of microwave-active material and a pressure-sensitive adhesive which is a polymeric alpha -olefin that has been cured to afford a "Peel Value" of at least 5 N/dm and a "Shrink Back" at 220 DEG C. of less than 5%. The tape can have a flexible backing such as a low-adhesion carrier web which can be stripped off from a piece of the tape that has been applied to a microwave food package, or when the backing is heat-resistant, it can be left in place.

摘要： A food package that controllably vents when heated in the microwave, and method of making the same, is provided. A microwave susceptor is provided to heat-weaken a sealant or wall during microwave heating and allow the seal to controllably fail. The susceptor can be attached to the food package as an adhesive tab, incorporated directly into the food packaging material, or incorporated into a flexible sleeve around the food package. Optionally, flap guards can be provided as part of the flexible sleeve to guard against the ejection of food particles from the package when the seal fails.
