摘要： An ultrasonic welding system includes an ultrasonic welding stack (10) mounted for linear movement and for applying a controlled force, speed, or a combination of force and speed to a first workpiece to press the first workpiece against a second workpiece to which the first workpiece is to be joined, and an electrically powered linear actuator (11) coupled to the ultrasonic welding stack (10) for moving the stack while applying a controlled force, speed, or a combination of force and speed to said stack, the actuator including an electrical servo motor producing rotational mechanical motion and an integrated converter for converting the rotational motion into linear motion. In one specific implementation, a controller is coupled to the linear actuator for controlling the force applied by said actuator (11) to the ultrasonic welding stack (10), and a sensor is coupled to the servo motor for producing a signal related to the torque produced by the servo motor and supplying that signal to the controller.

Laminate may also have metal foil or metallized layer, and/or volatile corrosion inhibitor and/or a cohesive-nonadhesive surface coating or a low-tack pressure-sensitive adhesive coating. Automatic packaging of a series of articles (20) between long webs of wide cushioning laminates having faces of heat-sealable foam. One web (31) is fed foam-face-up across a table (35), the articles (20) to be packaged placed on it in spaced locations, heat applied to foam edges by heating devices (38) and (39), and, optionally (171), to just about melt the foam there, and a second web (32) applied foam-face-down over the spaced articles and heat-sealed to the lower web at its edges. Transverse heat-sealing, and severings, are effected between successive articles by heat sealing means (65). the heat sealings can be set by cold pressings. Web backings can be made relatively nonporous to minimize bleed-through of melted foam.

摘要： An automatic high speed packaging machine (10) for wrapping packages (P) in polymer film (32) is disclosed wherein the film seal at the sides and ends of the packages (P) is made at a high rate of speed as the packages (P) travel through the machine (10). The packages (P) travel continuously in a straight lien through the machine (10). The packages (P) are delivered at the input end of the machine (10) by an in-feed conveyor (20) into a film inverting head (40) where the packages (P) are surrounded by longitudinally half-folded polymer film (32). Thereafter, the packages (P) are transported to a side sealing mechanism (50) which forms a longitudinal seal in the film (32) on the side opposite the fold. Finally, the packages (P) are transported to a travelling end sealing mechanism (70) where a lateral seal is formed at each end of the package (P) and the film web (32) connecting succeeding packages (P) is severed. The machine (10) produces packages (P) which have a sealed film wrap around the entire package (P). If desired, the polymer film (32) may be of heat shrinkable variety and the sealed package (P) may be passed through a shrinking oven to produce a package (P) having a tight "shrink-wrap" film covering.

摘要： An ultrasonic welding system includes an ultrasonic welding stack mounted for linear movement and for applying a controlled force, speed, or a combination of force and speed to a first workpiece to press the first workpiece against a second workpiece to which the first workpiece is to be joined, and an electrically powered linear actuator coupled to the ultrasonic welding stack for moving the stack while applying a controlled force, speed, or a combination of force and speed to said stack, the actuator including an electrical servo motor producing rotational mechanical motion and an integrated converter for converting the rotational motion into linear motion. In one specific implementation, a controller is coupled to the linear actuator for controlling the force applied by said actuator to the ultrasonic welding stack, and a sensor is coupled to the servo motor for producing a signal related to the torque produced by the servo motor and supplying that signal to the controller.
