    • A method and conveyor for conveying a solid material by means of parallel, oblong transfer elements (31, 32) that move back and forth in the direction of transfer. Most of the surface of the transfer elements moves in the direction of transfer at the same time and at least part of the surface thereof is inclined towards the centre of the conveyor. Thus, the support force exerted by the transfer elements on the pieces or parts lying thereon, and the friction force between them and the pieces or parts lying thereon, increase. At the same time, the support force that second, with respect to the outermost transfer elements lower transfer elements (1, 20, 31) exert on the pieces or parts lying thereon, and the friction between them and the pieces or parts lying thereon, decrease.

    • The feeding method concerns the transfer of panels (2) from the top of a vertical stack (17) to a loading table (4) on a panel saw machine. The panels (2) are pushed by mobile horizontal pushers (7) from the stack (17) until they arrive at an infeed device (8) which conveys the panels (2) to the loading table (4). The pushers (7) and the vertical stack (17) perform relative movements controlled by control means (70), so as to allow the pushers (7) to transfer from the stack (17) one or more panels (2), depending on the extent (h) of the relative translation. The infeed device (8) comprises at least two pairs of rollers, each pair comprising a motor-driven roller and an idler roller. The center distance of a pair of rollers may be adjusted by adjusting the idler roller.

    • In a sawing chine having a saw table (6) for carrying a workpiece (7) up to a saw blade (3), the saw table carries a workpiece feeding device for moving the workpiece incrementally into abutment with a fence (4). The workpiece feeding device includes a pusher head which contracts the workpiece. After the pusher head (4) has pushed the workpiece into abutment with the fence, a clamp (8) is operated to clamp the workpiece to the saw table. When the workpiece has become clamped, the pusher head backs off so as not to exert force on the workpiece during the cutting stroke and return stroke of the saw table. A clamp for use in clamping the workpiece to the saw table has an elongated beam (39) running in the direction of movement of the saw table, and a plurality of individual thrust devices which can be adjusted along the beam. For ensuring that the workpiece is presented squarely to the fence by the pusher head, the feeding device has a table with rollers (24) to support the workpiece, the rollers being inclined to direct the workpiece towards an alignment fence (26) at one side of the table, and to facilitate the movement of the workpiece towards the alignment fence, the pusher head has rollers (35, 36) for contracting the workpiece.
