The panel region is disposed adjacent to the inboard end and has first and second layers. The first and second layers are joined in a face-to-face orientation. The end region is disposed adjacent to the outboard end and has a fastening element zone and an intermediate zone. The intermediate zone is disposed between the fastening element zone and the panel region adjacent an interface between the panel and end regions. The stiffening element is disposed in the end region and has a stiffness of greater than about 200 N/m. A portion of the stiffening element is disposed between the first layer and the second layer and is joined to the first layer and the second layer. The portion is disposed adjacent to the interface between the panel region and the end region.

摘要： An absorbent article includes extensible zones. These extensible zones enable the absorbent article to expand and fit a broad size range of users. The extensible zones enable a broad range of adjustment in waist and leg opening dimensions by extension and retraction of the extensible zones. The bodyside liner layer and the outer cover layer preferably comprise spunbonded layers stretched in one direction and correspondingly narrowed in another direction. The extensible zones typically include an elastic layer between, and mounted to extend with, the outer cover layer and the bodyside liner layer. The elastic layer can comprise an elastic film or strands of material. An absorbent core is located between the bodyside liner layer and the outer cover layer. A method for forming an absorbent article is also disclosed which includes the step of forming a base structure by attaching the extensible bodyside liner layer to an extensible outer cover layer and creating at least one extensible zone by incorporating the elastic layer between the outer cover layer and the bodyside liner layer. In another embodiment of the invention, a plurality of extensible zones are formed with plural elastic layer elements. In another embodiment of the invention, the outer cover layer is formed by a nonextensible layer which is gathered and attached to the elastic layer and the bodyside liner layer. In yet another embodiment of the invention, the extensible zones are formed by the outer cover layer and bodyside liner layer with no elastic layer present.

In one embodiment, the method comprises placing the components of the absorbent article on a curved surface and securing the components while they are in a curved configuration. In another embodiment, the absorbent article is curved by stretching an elastically extensible component of the absorbent article and securing the extensible component to another component while the extensible component is extended, then allowing the extended component to retract. The absorbent article is, thus, curved without the use of separate elastic strands.

摘要： A permanently closed containment pant includes an elastically extensible chassis and a sling positioned within the chassis. The sling is joined to the front waist region and the back waist region. The sling includes a fluid-impervious base sheet and a containment flap joined with the base sheet to create a fluid-impervious pouch. The sling also includes a first transition and a second transition that are elastically extensible in a longitudinal direction and in a transverse direction. The base sheet is a fabric laminated with polyurethane and the containment flap is a fabric laminated with polyurethane. The polyurethane surface of the base sheet is ultrasonically joined in facing relationship with the polyurethane surface of the containment flap. The permanently closed containment pant is substantially devoid of an integrated absorbent core.

摘要： A convertible pant-like, prefastened, disposable absorbent article having a back waist region and a front waist region forming a waist opening and two leg regions each forming a leg opening. A ratio of an elastic tension of the back waist region to an elastic tension of each of the leg region is at least about 0.6. Thus, the convertible pant-like, prefastened disposable absorbent article of the present invention is effective in reducing undesired leakage when it is applied to the wearer in a manner similar to a conventional training pant rather than a conventional diaper article.
