摘要： A method, apparatus and a system for thermally-assisted pulsed electromagnetic field stimulation for treatment of osteoarthritis are disclosed. In one embodiment, the system comprises a multi-coil applicator adapted for positioning near or around of the treated joint, a pulse generator functionally coupled to the applicator, a power supply, and a feedback loop for stabilizing the temperature of the joint. The feedback loop includes a heating element, a temperature sensor and an electronic controller for maintaining the temperature of the joint in the range of 38 to 42 degree C. At elevated temperatures the healing effect of PEMF stimulation on the cartilage is maximized and overall efficiency of the treatment is improved. To produce a high electric field, the coils of the applicator are made with a low number of turns, for example less than 5 turns, and are spatially arranged to cover the whole joint without "dead" zones.

摘要： A system (100; 300) simultaneously applies compression and cooling to a body part. An ice bag (100) has a removable cap (140) for inserting ice and removing water. An air release valve (180) in the cap (140) allows release of air from the ice bag (100) without removing or loosening the cap. A compression wrap (300) is a unitary sheet (350) of elastic material having a central body (352) with straps (360, 362, 370, 372) extending therefrom. A hole (354) in the central body (352) receives the neck (1 16) of the ice bag (100), which is positioned over the body part. The unitary body (352) and straps (360, 362, 270, 372) of the sheet (350) apply pressure via the ice bag (100). Air released into the ice bag (100) from melting ice is removed via the air release valve (180) without disturbing the compression wrap (300) or the cap (140). The compression wrap (300) contracts to compensate for the volume of the released air, thus maintaining continuous pressure on and thermal contact with the body part.

摘要： Cold therapy is an established practice used in the medical profession to treat certain limb injuries, such as sprained or strained arm or leg muscles or injuries to joints. Generally, these types of injuries should be chilled to slow blood flow, which reduces swelling, pain, and further damage. Cold therapy is also an established practice used to treat migraine and other types of headaches. A typical course of cold therapy treatment is to apply ice for a specified period to the injured region of a limb, the neck, face, or head. Alternatively, a pack or bag containing a chemical agent that reacts (endothermically) to produce cold may be applied to the injured region, the neck, face, or head. The cold pack (11) has a first compartment (21'), a second compartment (21' ', 21' ' '), and a connection (23', 23'') between the first and second compartment, the connection adapted to pass the endothermic solution between the first hand second compartment.

The heating device is user programmable or pre-programmed to deliver according to a variety of cycles, patterns and algorithms. The cycles, patterns, and algorithms of the heat are programmable parameters, are under the user's control, and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the device. The heating algorithms are designed to interact with an individual user's thermal nerve receptors and other tissue characteristics and to reduce the tendency of the receptors to accommodate to the external stimuli with back pain, muscular pain, dysmenorrhea, headaches, fibromyalgia, post-herpetic neuralgia, nerve injuries and neuropathies, and sprains and strain. The device can also be used in conjunction with existing medical devices such as Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulators (TENS) to increase the effectiveness of TENS devices.

The knee wrap even further includes a plurality of thermal elements embedded in the piece of flexible web. The plurality of thermal elements has a pattern which applies thermal energy to the sides and top of the user's knee.

A hand-held pump (58) is provided for pressurizing an outer compartment to force an inner compartment with the thermal fluid against the areas of the limb being treated.
