    • There is provided a method of manufacturing a cutting element for use in a hair cutting device, the cutting element comprising an optical waveguide, the method comprising providing a preform for an optical waveguide, the preform comprising a core and an outer layer, wherein the outer layer is arranged around the core along the length of the core; forming a shaped preform by removing a portion of the outer layer along the length of the core to expose part of the core, wherein a remaining portion of the outer layer is a support structure for the core; heating the shaped preform; and pulling the shaped preform in the direction of the axis of the core to reduce the cross-section of the shaped preform and form the optical waveguide. Also provided is a cutting element manufactured according to the above method and a cutting element for use in a hair cutting device, the cutting element comprising an optical waveguide comprising a core and a support structure, wherein the support structure contacts the core along the length of the core to support the core, and wherein part of the core is exposed along the length of the core to form a cutting face for contacting hair. The thickness of the support structure tapers linearly or non-linearly from a thin side at which the support structure contacts the core to a thick side.

    • The present invention is concerned with a skin treatment device, in particular a hair removal device, having a light emission unit comprising a substrate and a plurality of first LED dies mounted on the substrate on an area of at least 0.2 cm 2, in particular of at least 1 cm 2, wherein the skin treatment device is arranged to activate the first LED dies to emit a treatment light pulse having a pulse length in particular in the range of between 10 ms and 300 ms and the first LED dies have a radiant flux such that a radiant fluence on the skin of a user of at least 1 J/cm is achieved by application of the treatment light pulse, wherein the light emission unit has at least two selectable active areas of first LED dies, where the selectable active areas have different sizes, and at least three second LED dies are mounted on the substrate at locations suitable for visibly indicating each of the selectable active areas.

    • A device configured to cut hair using laser light includes a handle portion and a shaving portion. The handle portion includes a battery and a laser light source. The laser light source is coupled to and configured to receive power from the battery. The laser light source is also configured to generate laser light having a wavelength selected to target a predetermined chromophore to effectively cut a hair shaft. The shaving portion includes a support and a single fiber optic supported by the support. The fiber optic has a proximal end, a distal end, an outer wall, and a cutting region positioned towards the distal end and extending along a portion of the side wall. The fiber optic is positioned to receive the laser light from the laser light source at the proximal end, conduct the laser light from the proximal end toward the distal end, and emit the light out of the cutting region and toward hair when the cutting region is brought in contact with the hair.
