    • Exemplary power systems for dynamically controlling a dispenser drive motor for dispensing soap, sanitizing or lotion. An exemplary soap, sanitizing or lotion dispenser includes a housing, a receptacle for receiving a container for holding a soap, sanitizing or lotion, a container of soap, sanitizing or lotion and a pump secured to the container. The exemplary soap, sanitizing or lotion dispenser includes a power source, a motor and an actuator that couples the motor to the pump. In addition, the exemplary soap, sanitizing or lotion dispenser includes pulse width modulation circuitry in circuit communication with the power source and the motor. Movement of the actuator one actuation cycle dispenses a dose of soap, sanitizing or lotion. The pulse width modulation circuitry provides a plurality of voltage pulses to the motor to move the actuator one actuation cycle.

    • A fluid dispensing system, fluid reservoir, refill container for refilling the fluid reservoir, and method of refilling the fluid reservoir are provided. The fluid dispensing system includes a refill connection port or nozzle to which a refill container is connected when refilling the fluid reservoir. The fluid reservoir includes a piston head and an actuator for moving the piston head in a first direction and in a second direction. When the piston head is moved in the first direction, the fluid within the fluid reservoir is pressurized, causing the fluid to be dispensed through an outlet of the fluid reservoir. When the piston head is moved in the second direction, a vacuum is created within the fluid reservoir that draws fluid, from the refill container, into the fluid reservoir. The fluid dispensing system includes a valve to enable multiple refill containers to be coupled to the nozzle and/or the refill connection port.

    • A method of operating a base unit (2) of a liquid dispenser is disclosed. The base unit (2) comprises a port for receiving a liquid refill (1); a liquid inlet for receiving, in use, liquid from the outlet of the refill unit (1); a liquid flow path from the liquid inlet to a liquid outlet from which the liquid is arranged to be dispensed in a downward direction; a pump (5) to selectively pump liquid along the liquid flow path and out of the outlet; a capacitive sensor (7) to sense the presence of an object in the vicinity of the liquid outlet; and a controller to receive a signal from the sensor (7) to operate the pump (5) if an object is sensed in the vicinity of a liquid outlet. The method comprises the steps of triggering the capacitive sensor (7) at a first sample rate to monitor changers in capacitance caused by varying ambient conditions; triggering the capacitive sensor (7) at a second sample rate which is higher than the first sample rate, and operating the pump (5) if the value sensed by the sensor (7) when detecting signals at the second sample rate exceeds a threshold valve indicating the presence of a hand in the vicinity of the outlet; wherein the signals detected at the first sample rate are used to adjust the threshold value to compensate for variations in humidity.
