    • A helmet for rotational energy management can include an outer energy management layer comprising an outer surface and an inner surface opposite the outer surface. The inner surface can comprise a first slidable finish comprising a first glaze comprising a thickness less than or equal to 2 millimeters (mm). An inner energy management layer can be disposed within the outer energy management layer and further comprise an outer surface oriented towards the outer energy management layer and an inner surface opposite the outer surface. The outer surface can comprise a second slidable finish that directly contacts the first slidable finish. The second slidable finish can comprise a second glaze comprising a thickness less than or equal to 2 mm. A space between the first slidable finish and the second slidable finish can be devoid of a lubricant and devoid of any interstitial slip layer.

    • Aspects of the invention are directed to protective headgear. In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, a protective headgear system is disclosed. The protective headgear system includes an elongated pad having a width, a length greater than the width, and a pair of opposed longitudinal edges extending along the length of the elongated pad. The protective headgear system further includes a pair of side pads coupled to the elongated pad, each side pad having a half disk shape with a semicircular edge and a diameter edge; and a plurality of pockets, each pocket accommodating a respective one of the elongated pad and the pair of side pads therein.

    • The present application discloses a helmet and an impact liner system and energy management structures for a helmet. In one exemplary embodiment, the impact liner system comprises a plurality of compressible energy management structures and one or more carriers for supporting the plurality of energy management structures within a helmet shell. The energy management structures are positioned between an interior surface of the helmet shell and the head of a user when the impact liner system is attached to the helmet shell. Each energy management structure comprises an outer wall configured to bend when an exterior of the helmet shell is impacted by an object. The carrier comprises a plurality of openings configured to receive the energy management structures. The outer wall of the energy management structures extend between the interior of the helmet shell and the carrier of the impact liner system.

    • Padding systems for use with helmets are described. An example padding system includes a pad body having a substantially unitary base portion. The base portion has a first side and a second side opposite the first side, the first side to face an inner surface of a helmet and the second side to face the head of a person when the helmet is worn by the person. The padding system also includes a first plurality of raised portions distributed on the first side of the base portion, at least some of the first raised portions extending beyond a first surface of the first side to fill first spaces between the inner surface of the helmet and the pad body when the padding system is installed in the helmet and the helmet is worn by the person. Additionally, the padding system includes a second plurality of raised portions distributed on the second side of the base portion, at least some of the second raised portions extending beyond a second surface of the second side to engage the head of the person when the helmet is worn by the person.
