    • A balance for measuring true mass compares the weight of the test object (8) with a reference weight. The reference force consists of the effective weight of a mass (9) and other components of the force transmission chain. The reference force may include elastic prestresses in addition to the weights. Both the weight of the test object (8) and the reference force act on, and are measured by, a single dynamometer (7) which is firmly secured to the balance. The balance is calibrated in two angular positions (horizontal and inclined) and the values of the weights (R1, R2, L1, L2) when the balance is unloaded and loaded with a standard weight(mL) are stored temporarily in a read-only memory of the computer (10). The numerical parameters of the balance derived therefrom are permanently stored. Prior to each weighing, but at least each time the balance is taken into service, the reference force (Rx) is redetermined. The true mass (mx) of the test object is determined accurately from the permanently stored quantities, the reference force and the weight (Lx) of said object, even when the balance is tilted.

    • An elastically reducing dynamometer with a parallel guide comprises a frame (1), two essentially parallel plates (3, 4), a load carrier (2), and four elastic tie joints (5 to 8). The frame (1) is secured to a base plate (12); the load carrier (2) supports a balance pan (16). A load-carrying element (21) clamped between the upper (or lower) end of the load carrier (2) and the lower (or upper) end of the frame converts the compressive (or tensile) force exerted on it into an electric signal. The parts (1 to 8) constituting the parallel guide are manufactured from a single piece, for example by profile extrusion or wire erosion.

    • A balance, which is virtually insensitive to angular deviation and to the presence of additional accelerations of the base, has two dynamometers (2, 3) each having a parallel guide (26). The parallel guides are mutually parallel and their degree of freedom coincides with the direction of gravitational acceleration when the balance is horizontal. The dynamometer (2) messures the weight (M) of the object to be weighed, and the dynamometer (3) measures that of a reference mass (8, 22, 24). The balance also has a computer (4) which, from the signals emitted by the two dynamometers (2, 3), accurately determines the mass of the object to be weighedindependently of the angular deviation of the instantaneous total acceleration. During calibration, which can be carried out only by the manufacturer, the dynamometer (3) determines the weight (R1, R2) of the reference mass (8, 22, 24) at two different inclinations of the balance, and the dynamometer (2) determines the weight (N1, N2) of the empty balance pan (18) and the total weight (M1, M2) using a known standard mass. After appropriate processing, the above-mentioned values and the parameters (s, S1, P, Q, R1, N1) derived therefrom are stored in the read-only memory (30) of the computer (4). The true mass is then determined from the instantaneous values of the weights (M, R) and the stored quantites.

    • The invention concerns an elastic force-dividing device for measuring vehicle weight, in which the vehicle suspension springs, in this case leaf springs, are the primary springs, and parallel-mounted measurement springs (11) are the secondary springs. The part of the vehicle weight acting through each measurement spring passes through a force sensor (5). A clinometer (12) measures both the longitudinal and transverse inclination of the vehicle (6). The clinometer measurements are used to correct the weight readings given by the force sensors (5). The signals from the force sensors (5) and the clinometer (12) are fed to a processor which calculates the sum of the weights acting on the (in this case) four force sensors (5). In addition to the above-mentioned inclination correction, the processor carries out all the arithmetical operations involved in weighing, such as tare-weight calculation and the determination of differences in weight, as well as calculating transport performance data.
