    • A jaw (39) for crimping a generally cylindrical compression sleeve (34) in a compression coupling is disclosed in, which at least two support members (39, 41) are adapted to support at least two arcuately shaped dies (24) for movement toward and away from each other for compressing the compression sleeve (34) about an inner concentric pipe or tube (36) to form a sealed coupling therewith. Each die has an inner arcuate die surface corresponding in shape and dimension to a predetermined outer surface portion of the compression sleeve so as to engage and compress the compression sleeve when positioned thereabout and moved toward each other. The dies (24) each have at least one crimping roller (30) rotatably mounted adjacent the die surface. The crimping roller (30) is adapted to form a crimp on the compression sleeve and the inner member to form a mechanical attachment therebetween. Various combinations of die/roller arrangements are disclosed to encircle and compress a sleeve/pipe combination to form a compression coupling.

    • A coupling for joining conduits together is disclosed, the coupling having male and female fitting portions held in engagement by a self-locking roller cam positioned on the female portion. The roller cam has a cam body rotatable about an axis offset from the center of the cam body. An annular roller surrounds the cam body and is rotatable relatively to it. An outwardly facing surface on the roller engages an opposing concave surface on the male portion of the coupling. Reaction forces between the roller and the opposing surface operate along a line of action initially positioned to one side of the offset axis to create a torque opposing rotation of the cam into engagement with the opposing concave surface. Further forced rotation of the cam into engagement with the opposing concave surface causes the line of action of the reaction force to shift to an opposite side of the offset axis thereby creating a torque which causes rotation of the cam body into engagement with the opposing concave surface to retain the male fitting portion within the female fitting portion.

    • A coupling for joining pipe segments together is disclosed. The coupling is derived from a standard fitting and has a housing with a socket and an expanded region adjacent to the socket. Three shoulders are positioned within the expanded region. A sealing member and two support washers are positioned within the expanded region, each engaging a shoulder. A retainer is positioned in the expanded region between the two support washers. A lip, positioned at the end of the expanded region, extends radially inwardly and captures the sealing member, washers and retainer within the coupling. The retainer has a plurality of radial teeth angularly oriented to engage a pipe and prevent its removal from the coupling. One of the washers is kept in spaced relation from the other washer by a shoulder to prevent contact with the retainer upon assembly which may otherwise inhibit the teeth engaging the pipe.
