    • A waveguide-microstrip transmission line transition structure (10) is provided with a microstrip transmission line structure (12) adapted for coupling to an open end of a waveguide (14). The microstrip transmission structure (12) includes a microstrip transmission line having a ground plane conductor (18) and an antenna (38) electrically coupled to the microstrip transmission line (30) through an aperture (22) in the ground plane conductor (18). The ground plane conductor (18) is adapted for mounting in a plane intersecting a longitudinal axis (24) of the waveguide (14). The antenna (38) provides impedance matching between microstrip transmission line (30) and waveguide (14). Thus, a relatively simpler manufacturing structure is provided for mounting to a standard waveguide flange (42) without special waveguide pieces. This arrangement provides a modular arrangement which allows for easy connection or disconnection of the microstrip transmission structure (12). Additionally, such a transition structure (10) requires no special openings, thus eliminating spurious radiation and provides a hermetic seal. The transition structure (10) is well suited for connecting waveguide feeds to planar antennas.
