The improvement comprises the addition of a silicon cell to act as a scavenger cell to absorb light that would otherwise not be absorbed and to convert that energy to electricity. The silicon cell is positioned adjacent to the cell with the smallest energy gap of the cells in the MEGC stack.

摘要： An adjustable-aim light pipe fixture, comprising a generally spherical eyeball (20) for receiving an end of a light pipe is disclosed. The eyeball has a longitudinal axis coincident with a longitudinal axis of that portion of the light pipe that is received in the eyeball. A socket (14) holds the eyeball. The socket comprises a first retainer ring (16) and a second retainer ring (18). Each retainer ring has an interior surface with contact points to an outer surface of the eyeball. The first and second retainer rings are oriented with respect to each other so as to hold the eyeball in a fixed position when the first and second rings are pressed towards each other. Clamping structure (30, 31) clamps the first and second rings against each other in such a manner as to hold the eyeball in fixed relation to the first retainer ring.

An elongated side-light distribution portion depends from the chassis and receives light exiting the first light collector. Light-extraction structure extract light from the side of the first portion, along a Length of the first portion, in a different direction from the direction of light received from the first light collector.

摘要： Improved side-light distribution systems are disclosed. In one embodiment, an efficient side-light distribution system includes a LED light source; a light coupler for receiving light from the LED light source at a first end and providing light at a second end to an elongated light pipe, and the elongated light pipe receives light from the LED light source at a first end and transmitting the light towards a second end. The coupler transforms at least the angular distribution of at least 70% of the light from the LED light source into an appropriate angular distribution needed for total internal reflection at a second end within the elongated light pipe. The light coupler includes a light-extraction means between the first and second ends of the light coupler for extracting light out of a side of the light coupler. At least part of the light within the light pipe is extracted out of a side of the light pipe, between the first and second ends of the light pipe, by a light-extraction means.
